Healthy Conversations
Added 2025-02-26 04:51:33 +0000 UTCHi friends, this is a bonus post for the many of you who are parents and have inquired about how to start (and maintain) healthy conversations with your kids about sex, gender, and sexuality. How lucky your kids are to have such progressive parents who want to arm their children with this knowledge!
Talking about sex and answering questions about where babies come from doesn’t have to be stressful, but most parents wait too late to start these conversations. This means a lot of kids learn unreliable information through peers (or worse, the internet).
These books are the best on the market for progressive parents who want to educate their kids about bodies, gender, sex, and sexuality. Sharing these age-appropriate books with your kids gives your child access to everything they might want to know, and helps to start healthy conversations.
Cory Silverberg is Canadian. The books are more of a graphic novel or comic style so they’re easy for kids to flip through. The first volume for younger children is one you would sit down and read through together. The following two volumes are made for kids to look through on their own, which can help give you a starting point for any important talks you need to have.

What Makes A Baby (Cory Silverberg)
3-7 years

Sex is a Funny Word (Cory Silverberg)
7-10 years

You Know, Sex (Cory Silverberg)
10-14 years
I highly recommend these books in my professional and personal life. If you know if any other great resources for parents who want to talk more openly with their kids, drop the info in the comments.

This reminds me of a recent post about the Marvel animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur where periods are the topic of the episode (besides the super hero stuff) and comments included people saying they had great experiences talking to their daughters about their periods : ) Though, Disney did squash an episode from the most recent season that had a trans character in it. The episode was simply removed from the season >__< it may be possible to find the episode online. But it is a really amazing show.
