Progress Report 4-29-2025 (Update won't make April, but still coming soon!)

Hey everyone. As you've probably guessed by now (especially if you read the title), the v0.48 release unfortunately won't be making it for April, though not from a lack of trying! Work on the update has been going pretty well, and most of the big ticket items are finished, but I still need some more time for playtesting and implementing some last minute things.

Before anything else, though, here's the daily updates we've been posting for the past month and a half, since the last progress report:

So as you can see, we've been getting a lot done! I won't go into detail on any of the stuff I've been working on in this post, since it's all stuff I've talked about previously. Still, I'm sorry to anyone who was really excited for the release, but we ARE still very close to being finished, and I don't expect it to take too much longer - my guess would be the first half of May, but I'm not going to hard commit to any specific date. It's been a long time since our last update release, and I want to make sure that the release is rock solid when it finally happens; I'm sure there will still be things I missed, such is the nature of game dev, but I want to iron out the big problems at least. In the time since the last update release I've done a LOT of small tweaks to the game, some of which weren't playtested as thoroughly as they should've been due to the mental health issues I've been going through, so there's a lot of rough edges right now that I wasn't expecting to have to deal with that have slowed things down.

Despite not making the April date I was hoping for, I'm really happy with how progress has been going the past few months. It's felt easier for me to work than it has in years, and it's been a relief to know that I'm still capable of doing this with some consistency. I don't know when we'll be able to get back to the update-every-2-months schedule we were on previously - that is my ultimate goal, though I think it'll take a bit to build up that momentum again - but in the meantime I'll be happy if we can just get back to releasing multiple updates a year at the bare minimum. I'm just as unhappy with the pace I've been going at as I'm sure all of you are, and it feels like things are really, finally turning a corner for me, even if I've still got a way to go before I get to where I want to be.

Alright, that's about enough for me today. Seriously though, thank you all SO much for sticking with me throughout the development of CPE. It means the world to know that anyone likes my work enough to put up with my glacial dev pace during these past few years, and even if it takes a while yet, I'm determined to see this project through while making it the best game it can be along the way. Thank you all for reading, and we'll see you again - hopefully very soon - with the v0.48 release!
