Weekly Progress Report and Community Recolor 1, jacket color (5-20-2024)

Hey everyone, sorry this post is a day late! It's for a very justifiable and not at all dumb reason: I discovered the Mario Builder 64 romhack and I got all swept up in making levels for that :^) I can't wait to start making 3D games of my own, it's a breath of fresh air after designing 2D environments for such a long time.

In any case, this week was similar to last week - some good, mostly not great. The most notable thing is that I haven't been taking ADHD medication for a while, and I just started taking it again on Friday, which is.. probably directly responsible for the increase in productivity on the weekend, huh? Who would've thought. Regardless, even though most of this week was a poor showing, I'm feeling really positive right now. The medication is working great, and a good friend of mine (the one making that Alicia model, actually) and I started working together on some SFW passion projects we've had in mind for ages, and having a creative outlet other than CPE is ironically making it easier to work on CPE itself. ADHD brains are dumb, man :' )

Before I post the daily updates, two things: first, WE'RE GOING TO START STREAMING AGAIN AND I REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME. No schedule yet, but Orex and I are going to be streaming at some point tomorrow, probably around 2 pm Alaska time, but maybe a little later than that. I was hoping for earlier, but my sleeping schedule just got ruined again - believe it or not it wasn't even my fault this time, my stomach was acting up and wouldn't let me sleep until like 7 in the morning last night :' )

Second, I'm going to have the weekly report and weekend community recolor post in the same post from here on, since there's no visual element to the recolor poll on the weekend - the actual color poll will be posted on Thursday based on the results of the poll today. I'll talk about the poll afterwards, so here's what we got up to this week:

I'm especially happy about the save filesize reduction; I've been unhappy with our save filesize for a while, and now that the game supports a ton of save slots, I wanted to get that fixed so the saves didn't start taking up an unreasonable amount of space, and I was able to research and implement a new system in the course of a single day. I haven't been that productive in a while, so it felt great.

Speaking of next time, how 'bout them poll options? We're recoloring the jacket this week, and I'm gonna try combining the colors like this for now, so we don't have an overwhelming amount of poll options. Whichever option wins, we'll do 2-3 versions of each color listed, and then you'll vote on that Thursday.

Again, if the structure of this poll feels too slow or overly restrictive, we'll try something else - holding votes on our Discord using emoji reactions was one idea I had, it would be possible to do daily polls without it being annoying too so it's worth considering. For now though, we'll try to finish at least one round of recolors using this system before deciding on anything; it should speed up now that we're doing two polls a week.
