Lessons in the garden

Along with ruling and guiding the kingdom of Equestria, Princess Celestia has her own academy. However her highness often doesn't get the chance to directly interact with her students.

Getting accepted to Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns is an honor for not just foal attending, but also their family. However at the same time it can also be daunting challenge for the foals. Many come from beyond the Canterlot area so they have to leave their home town, often for the first time, to attend the school. Also great number of the foals will be from smaller towns or rural areas. So the city of Canterlot can be imposing. A large, busy, noisy place that can overwhelm the young foals.

So at the start each school year, and if her schedule permits it, Celestia will arrange for effectively a field trip to the gardens in the Royal Palace. There she plays host to these new students. Welcoming them to the school and learning their names and where they're from.

Oh and cookies. Definitely cookies.
