Also the frog of a horse's or pony's hoof is pretty sensitive to have sharp or hard things jabbed against it. Also on slick surfaces hooves don't offer the best traction. Finally hard hooves can scratch some floor surfaces. For that reason some households will offer basic, almost disposable, house slipper hooves to visitors.
