"Right in front of me! I got a lock on him and it was game over!"
Recently I posted some study sketches of an anthro Lightning Dust and Rainbow Dash in flight suits. Link Those sketches are for a commission with the 2 mares sitting on a F-16 while talking through their latest training mission. I could see them later in life being instructors at an organization like Red Flag.
When creating a piece like this you as the artist has to balance several different elements and priorities. One of the most important is which elements to emphasize in the final piece? Modern fighter aircraft are huge compared to most automobiles you'll find on the road.
So in the piece do we place the focus on the airplane, the pilot/pilots, or something in the middle. In this case the client decided we'll be focusing on the mares so they went with #2.
FYI. In spite of being able to pull multi-G maneuvers, and sometimes bring their pilot back home after sustaining significant damage. There's actually very places you can walk on a modern military jet and not damage something important. So I did a bit of homework to figure out where I could place the mares on the jet.
