An update on our Patreon goals
Added 2020-03-19 03:19:02 +0000 UTCHey everybody! Our Patreon is getting INSANELY close to the $6000 goal of having Orexius finally go full time - we should be hitting it any time this week. First off, I want to just say.. holy shit, guys. Thank you, SO much. I never dreamed Crisis Point would succeed well enough to support multiple people working full-time. It's absolutely blowing my mind that we're actually going to get there, and all of you are to thank for it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all SO much for all the love and support you've given us.
Now, there are two things I want to go over here, first is the $6k goal itself. Switching a second person to full-time is a really big deal, and we don't want to take it lightly. Because of all the crazy stuff going on in the world right now, me and Orexius have talked about it and we both agree that, even once we pass the $6k goal, for now it would be best for him to keep his dayjob for a short while; we don't know how hard the economy is going to be hit by the pandemic, and it's possible that it could end up hitting our Patreon eventually. We want to make sure that, once he transitions into full time, we won't be at risk of having financial issues in the future, and dropping below that number. In a few months, if things are still looking good, Orex is planning on moving in with me and starting CPE work full time; until then, both of us will be putting aside money into savings using all that extra income, to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
The second thing I wanted to discuss is our previous $8k goal for alternate costumes. The further we get into developing Crisis Point, the more I'm realizing what an astronomical undertaking alternate costumes will be. Crisis Point is already dramatically behind on sprite animations, and I'm not personally able to animate at the quality standard Orexius can reach, so we've had trouble catching up for a long time. Hopefully, with him going full time, this will change - but because of it, for the time being, I've made the decision to get rid of the goal - this is not a guarantee that alternate costumes will never happen, but it's something I want to put WAY more thought into than I did when I first introduced the goal, and I want to know how much smoother our animation pipeline will be with Orexius working on CPE full-time before committing to that goal. We are not changing the previous goal we've already hit, for modular outfits - that will still be coming to CPE later in development - but the goal for alternate costumes is being removed, at least for now, until we can reevaluate and make sure it's something we as a team can reasonably accomplish without dragging out the game's development.
Feel free to leave any comments below about this, regardless of how you feel. I wanted to bring these things up now before the goals are hit, especially with the alternate costumes goal, so that everyone has time to offer their input well before we reach those numbers. I understand if there is some disappointment, but I hope you understand our reasoning! Thank you very much for reading and offering your feedback, and again, we cannot thank you enough for the support you've given us. It truly feels like a new era is starting for us, and I cannot wait to see where it takes us.

I hope that everything is fine with your health and yes, I think that if the pandemic passes, then the economy in the whole world will go down dramatically, including the Patreon. So your thoughts are right

2020-03-19 21:17:56 +0000 UTCsustainability should be the goal, it may sound callous but I would wait 3 months for the patreon to build up before hiring Orex full time. It makes little sense to bring them on, only for the amount to fall and then backtrack

2020-03-19 03:47:33 +0000 UTCAs nice as alt costumes would be, I am much happier knowing that you guys are focusing on streamlining the development process as much as possible. Realism can leave a bitter taste sometimes, but readjusting priorities to where they're needed is what separates good devs from bad ones. You guys are making the right decision and I fully support it.

2020-03-19 03:28:51 +0000 UTCY'know what, I'm just here to support the game, it's rad that it's gotten so much support already, but I won't lose any sleep over alt costumes being dropped. I just want you to be able to keep making this awesome game.
