Fuck.

So Arsministrator, our lead pixel artist, informed me today that because of some circumstances in his real life, unless things change (which seems unlikely as of now), it's possible he might have to stop working on Crisis Point in the future. Ars was recently hired, and he was going to be in charge of all character pixel art in Crisis Point, including Alicia's rework and any future enemies added to the game. This leaves me in a position where, yet again, I don't know what the fuck to do moving forward. Do I continue having him rework character art, knowing that it's very likely he won't be here for the full game and any future art won't match up? Do I go ahead with Alicia's old design and have Arsmin work on Brawler Bits, a less important project? Do I try to hire yet another pixel artist who will be able to pick up the pieces if/when Ars has to leave the project? I just don't know anymore. I don't have a damn clue.

why not have Ars teach the new guy the ins and outs of what he is doing and why, that way they can share info and the transition will be easier, Cain makes a good point, LoK forums is a decent place to ask around, and Dinkolish also makes a good point, this is business, treat it with a calm mind and a fair hand, talk about this to the people involved (they know the problem more intimately than we do) and see what they suggest also. the most important thing to do is just keep a cool head about it, seldom is anything worthwhile accomplished by being upset.

So my comment attempts in IE didn't work... anyways, firstly, take a deep calming breath. You have five-six months to figure this out, just relax and take a moment to chill and then you can start by talking with Arsm and ask him what he would suggest. Perhaps as suggested you could go with a basic instruction thing for a possible successor to use for the sprite reworking. You could also see if someone is willing to apprentice to Arsm and learn skills that they could then market in the future. You could also ask around Legend of Krystal forums, where I recall you at least seemed to start from (or posted a thread there about your game way back.) There might be some users there with spriting experience who can help out. Another alternative though, admittedly one that should be a last resort of last resorts, is to try and switch the game over to Flash. That however would be even more time consuming and probably not at all what is wanted here.

What does the remodel look like? I haven't seen much differences in the demos I've played. You have to be a businessman about it, even if Ars is your friend (which I am sure he is), you have to utilize him and his skills to meet your goals. Business.

Papanomics

You could have him finish what he's working on and use only those characters for certain areas, that way you can deconflict and not lose the work.

shit happens, and a lot :/ I would say find a new one who looks that can be consistent, although in this industry that is very hard :(

I think it's best you talk with him about finding someone temporary or permanent, I mean rework on all design is a bonus but it always needed! But I think it's best you keep your chin up, look foward and keep moving! I have faith in your growth for the games!

Agreed :)

PS. You got this.

I might recommend investing time in documentation. Have Arsministrator leave a direction and basic how-to for their successor. Hold back on BB development to make that time available for the documentation.

Buck_Harding

Well I would say to focus on the important things of crisis point rather than brawler bits, crisis point is your main project and brawler bits should be secondary, I wish I had the talent to help I would of applied on the spot
