Afternoon, Patrons! Now that September has begun, work on v.04 is underway. I started the month off by working on implementing the Force Shot upgrade, the first of Alicia's 3 subweapons. In v.03, some of you might have noticed certain walls that look a bit different, mostly near the end of the demo. These walls will get a more defined graphic later, but they're essentially 'breakable' walls that can be removed through the destructive power of the Force Shot. This weapon is a short range explosive that flies forward a small distance before coming to a stop, at which point it explodes, sending out a powerful burst of force that damages and pushes things away. The ammunition for the Force Shot is limited, but by exploring the planet thoroughly, you'll be able to find ammunition upgrades that improve its total count - up to a maximum of 100. Now, this is where the exciting part comes in. I had a specific visual effect in mind for the Force Shot. Rather than using a traditional explosion, like a missile, I envisioned a screen distortion, showcasing how powerful the blast is while also giving it a more unique, futuristic vibe. I've been racking my brain for several weeks now, trying to come up with a solution, and last night.. well, I'll just let the video do the talking! http://gyazo.com/751e847bea80b07ffbe65670396c4a87 Needless to say, I'm super happy with the result! It came out better than I had hoped. Make sure you click the link and view it as an mp4 - the gif version loses a ton of frames, and doesn't show the effect off very well at all. That's about all I have for now. I'll be working on implementing the lighting engine next, once I finish polishing the Force Shot. 'Til next time! -A42
