Grace
Added 2020-11-13 23:24:50 +0000 UTCA patron reward for McClaw. The character is his OC Grace who he described as being a griffin/batpony hybrid.
In his character description he described Grace as having a mottled fur/feather pattern that provided excellent camouflage. At the same time I started thinking about what bird type the griffin the mother had been since I imagined she probably was some type of nocturnal bird.
True there are many owls with a mottled pattern to their feathers, but then I thought of another nocturnal avian candidate. The Nighthawk which nest on the ground and often don't build proper nests. instead they rely on their excellent camouflage. Same for the chicks who blend well with their environment.

By traditional mythology and heraldry (i.e. not in Equestria), hippogriffs result from a male griffon breeding with a female horse. So to get this particular combination, I assume Grace's griffon half comes from her mother, with her wings coming from her bat-pony father. Why "Grace"? First, it starts with a "G" (an MLP tradition for griffons). Second, she's primarily a sneak, so graceful movements are very useful.
