Just a heads up to my Patrons
Added 2018-08-02 05:20:23 +0000 UTCFor some reason this month Patreon is having problems processing peoples pledges? Every month there will be one or two people who for various reasons their pledge doesn't go through. This month it is to the tune of a couple hundred dollars? And many of these are good solid patrons, clients, and friends who I have known for years. Any ideas what's happening?

The PayPal end doesn't show anything unusual, not even an "international" tag.

2018-08-03 17:47:20 +0000 UTCYou are just fine. As of this morning everyone of my patron pledges appears to have been processed or is in the process.

2018-08-03 15:53:48 +0000 UTCI just joined a couple of weeks ago, and checked to see that it shows COMPLETE here under the latest transaction, so assume it went through... (?)

2018-08-03 14:13:50 +0000 UTCYes they should have mentioned this, but I really doubt that GDPR is the reason, by coming over here you make it even worse, cause it now affects everything you do and every data you handle and not only that from your european customers. Facebook has moved more than 1.5 billion users out of its servers in Ireland to mainland US so that they are not affected by the GDPR!

2018-08-03 07:18:09 +0000 UTCIt's almost certainly not US law, but GDPR (European law) that is the culprit. For once. My debit card was deactivated because of this. I am NOT happy.

2018-08-03 02:54:26 +0000 UTCAre you aware of what US laws they were having problems with?
Baron Engel
2018-08-02 17:58:47 +0000 UTCYes, that might have been a good idea! But since they're under UK law now other things might change as well.

2018-08-02 17:51:30 +0000 UTCThat's more or less what I had heard as well. Kind of wish they'd informed folks in advance that this might happen.

2018-08-02 17:39:19 +0000 UTCSo, here is what happened, Patreon apparently moved their headquarters to the UK to avoid problems with new US laws, which means it's now charging, or trying to charge from oversees, well, at least if you're from the US, and your banks see this "new" charge as a potential fraud so they deny it, now you have to tell them it's okay to let Patreon charge you.

2018-08-02 15:04:18 +0000 UTCMine looks okay from the Patreon end. I'll check the other end later.

2018-08-02 15:01:52 +0000 UTCMy payment went through just fine... so I don't know why it's not showing up on your end

2018-08-02 11:50:21 +0000 UTCI had to press retry a couple of times in the payment page for Patreon to retake my payment
Dark Forge
2018-08-02 10:28:41 +0000 UTCI had to delete and re-add.

2018-08-02 07:08:56 +0000 UTCI am sure in was Patreon. For some reason it bounced my one payment method but took a different one.

2018-08-02 06:29:02 +0000 UTCSo, looking back, it looks like Patreon has been showing up as a recurring payment; except this month it was denoted for me as a one-time purchase. This probably caused issues for some people's banks too, as 'recurring' charges are generally never flagged as suspicious. A 'one time' purchase from a 'new' internet merchant probably tripped a few automated security stop-gaps at some banks.

2018-08-02 06:21:37 +0000 UTCI was pretty sure it wasn't the fault of my patrons but something in the system. This international charge thing seems odd though. Really can't blame the banks for being suspicious.
Baron Engel
2018-08-02 06:04:21 +0000 UTCI had to tell the bank mine was legit... and I go look at payment types here and it showed the payment type I was using as 'expired'... so I have moved it to a different payment type. Sorry if this caused problems, hopefully what I did will correct that in my case. And yes, it came through as an international charge, which is why my bank thought it might be fraud.

2018-08-02 05:41:52 +0000 UTCFrom what I've seen, Patreon charges came through as international charges this time. Which triggers fraud detection causing it to be declined and the customer has to tell the bank it's legit then run the transaction again. Happened to me and it worked fine the second try.

2018-08-02 05:34:27 +0000 UTCI know one artist on patron saw something like 30% of their regular patrons get declined today. I haven't yet heard a concrete reason behind it.
