MLP M41A Pulse Rifle
Added 2017-06-21 22:32:28 +0000 UTCEven with the A/C running in the studios it has gotten rather toasty at time, and I don't want to run the risk of getting sweat on multi-hundred dollar commission that I have already committed many hours to. However that doesn't mean I am not getting any art done. No I am just focusing on smaller, primarily B/W, projects.
One project that I started a couple of months ago and posted some images of already on Patreon is based off a dream I had one night where Petina was watching a movie that was crossover between MLP and Aliens. The role of Ripley was being played by Zecora, and Sweetie Belle was effectively Newt. The characters were anthro and the role of the Xenomorphs was played by the Changelings. All though they were a lot creepier in this dream.
I've always liked the M41A Pulse Rifle and shows how the film production crew grappled with the limitations of time, money, and available 1980's technology to come up with cool and iconic piece of Sci-fi tech. That said there are certain aspects of its design betray its prop shop origins. However my subconscious is not restricted by budgetary or technological limitations so it decided to fix a few things that have always bugged me about the design.

2017-07-15 21:41:50 +0000 UTCExactly. The action was actually the AR-15 gas function and used 5.56 simulation rounds. That way the actor could sense recoil. The brass was painted flat black to non reflect but you saw it too! I kept thinking Cpl Hicks called it case less but there was brass ejecting. I met one of the weapon developers here in Fort Worth. He worked on making realistic Hollywood guns for the industry back a few years ago.

2017-06-21 23:29:12 +0000 UTCYeah and they were very creepy. The Changeling transformations were also a bit slower and more "Juicy" than in the TV series. Also changelings usually only assumed the form of the host they grew up in.

2017-06-21 23:20:59 +0000 UTCThey did a good job with the camera angles and lighting to hide the ejecting brass casings although you can see them just barely in a couple of scenes. Also I wonder if the deliberately used dull shell casings to keep them from reflecting the lighting too much?

2017-06-21 23:18:10 +0000 UTCThe M41 was a case-less round design for the primary. No brass to eject so to say. 10mm explosive dual purpose round. The lower was a 20mm grenade type similar to the 40mm just smaller but more shotgun type than brass. The idea is based in real military ideas that are in development. The thing with the alien was its ability to sense your position on firing so it's reflexes allowed it to basically dodge a single shooter. I feel sorry for Zecora......listening to Newt scream like she did in the movie would make me want to shoot her just to shut her up! SQUEEEEE etc would unnerve anyone.XD I would like to see a full size Zecora as you show her here.
