The Eclipse | Episode 11

The Eclipse | Episode 11

Firstkhaotung carried this series on their shoulders. With all the crazy plots this show has given us, their chemistry was the one constant thing that kept viewers invested. Thua pissed me off so much in this episode but there is a scene in the next episode which is meant to be cute but is the sole reason why I dislike Thua so much. All the actors really were amazing, they made you feel what you needed to feel from the characters they played 🤩

"So whatever morally high horse he thinks he's riding as a truth teller, it is a crippled donkey at best". Pura poesía XD. I'll incorporate that to my English repertoir hahaha. I agree with the sentiment. Thua was a very good character in my opinion... he was interesting, gorgeous XD and his background was fit for a very powerful and deep character development. But we were given this. Sad, an unused opportunity.

As I "teased" in my ep1 comment, I love this show for it's overall message - but I have major issues with how one of the plotlines was handled. And after this episde, I don't think I need a drumroll to announce what it is - it should be fairly obvious, that I am referring to Thua and that entire mess. 🤦 But before I get into that, let me just take a minute to say, how much I actually love the Chadok plot twist! Besides the fact, that no one saw it coming, which is part of the fun of a dramatic plot twist - for me the narrative itself is giving generational truama. He was a student himself at Suppalo, forced to follow the rules, it made him who he is (as the Principle pointed out last episode), and so he is stuck, with no real selfworth out side Suppalo, and so he doesn't know how to break free, and so he just continues the cycle. Teacher Dika gave him a glimps of hope, but when the Principle caught them, he crawled back in the closet out of fear. It's sad, but not unheard of or difficult to understand. Let's hope for better days to come for him 🙏 As for Thua. I hardly know where to begin. So buckle up for a rant! This is probably the most dissapointed I've ever been in a character. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind flawed characters, because that makes room for growth of development, but in my opinion Thua's character has neither. He is let of the hook; proving that he is not only a terrible friend, he is also a lier and a hypocrit. First of all, his whole thing is wanting to hold every accountable and for everyone to tell the truth. But at no point, while he is throwing his friends under ther bus, does he admit the truth about himself being the Suppalo curse. He purposly leaves that part out, in order for only Akk to take the blame. So whatever morally high horse he thinks he's riding as a truth teller, it is a crippled donkey at best. Second, he goes on and on about how Ayan is covering for Akk and that he will never allow for Kan to that. But he makes sure to out Akk in public, so there's no going back, but his own actions are only talked about within the close group of friends. Very calculating. He says he willing to pay the consequences, and for a second there you find yourself on his side, because at least he isn't being a hypocrit then. Wrong. He is. If he wanted people to know the truth, which is his main thing, he should have told it. In stead he allows his so called friend group to cover for him, making that stupid BL. I'll give him the benefit of doubt and say he wasn't counting on Kan to cover for him, but he still allows him too - proving that he is not the truth teller he claims to be nor willing to pay the consequences. And then there's the issue of him outing Akk and Ayan. What kind of queer kid outs another queer kid? Thua has been bullied his whole life for being gay, he knows exactly how horrible it feels, and yet he finds it necessary to out someone else in order to tell the truth. And what truth? His truth, not THE truth. He is like one of those kids who say "I play by the rules, my rules". With friends like that, who needs enemies! As I said, I don't mind Thua being flawed. I don't mind a protagonist doing bad things. But at least use it as a stepping stone for growth. Have him acknowledge that what he did, or how he did it, was wrong. Make him apologise to his friends. Give him some saving grace. But no, they litterally just cover it up and make light of it. And I will never forgive this show for ruining Thua in that way. It was a character assassination. For me, the Thua storyline became such a point of content for me, that it ruined my experience. I was never able to bounce back from it!
