One can imagine that at university and in his work, he may have met a certain number of them... So that an apology sentence in English was pronounced automatically as a reflex when he crossed paths with James... And then, Jom can be sufficiently destabilized, weakened since his arrival not to think about avoiding speaking in English... If it's a natural reflex, his excuse in English is natural.
