The Pope just expressed support to gay people.
I must say, It's been a very triggering week for me.
For the last 5 days, you guys have noticed how upset I've been.
I have been really upset about the documentaries I watched about Gay people around the world. It's is a crime in over 70 countries RIGHT NOW in 2020 -- and not just a few extremist groups, mind you.... We're talking about ONE THIRD of the entire world's population!!!! And TENS OF THOUSANDS are slaughtered each year by their governments, communities, and even their own families for "honor killings" (Shaira Law in Islam). Yes, in 2020, LGBT people have their heads chopped off, they have their body chopped into pieces, they are hung by the neck, they are tied up and thrown off building rooftops, they are buried in the ground & stoned in the face until they stop breathing, they are whipped, stabbed, drowned, or shot in the heart... As I type this, a gay person was just murdered LEGALLY somewhere in the world... because it's a crime to be gay.
So yes, Today, the Pope just gave his support for same-sex relationships, and there is so much backlash in the news. People are fighting on Twitter. People are fighting on Facebook. People are fighting on Instagram. All of the comment sections on YouTube are flooded with hatred and meanness. It's VERY triggering... because all of this fighting is over people like me... me.... me, and how I was born. How God "made me" and if it's "okay" that I was born this way.
I am gay. That is who I am. I wish I could be straight. I wish I could change what I like. Life would be so much easier for me if I was straight.
But I can't change it. And to see that I'm UNWANTED by so many people, to see that I am UNWANTED on so many ends of the earth, it just feels incredibly terrible. I have not don't anything wrong. I haven't committed any crimes. But, my "crime" is expressing love to another man. That's the crime.
Imagine being in my shoes. Let's pretend you are gay today...
Imagine knowing the fact that in 1/3rd of the entire world, you aren't allowed to exist and you are LEGALLY killed by your government (Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Emirates, Nigeria... places like that). And then in the other 2/3rds of the world, you're surrounded by thousands of people saying that you're not allowed to exist in their communities.
You're not allowed to be Baptist. You're not allowed to be Mormon. You're not allowed to be Orthodox. You're not allowed to be Methodist. You're not allowed to be Muslim. And in many Islamic countries, they'll slice off your head with a sword if they find out. And it's not just in religion. In many irreligious communities, you're still not welcome. And in the countries where it's "legal," the majority of them still do NOT protect you.
They don't protect you from hate speech, they don't protect you from discrimination, they don't protect you from housing discrimination, bank discrimination, loans or mortgage discrimination. You can be legally fired from your Job for being gay. You're not allowed to adopt children. You're not allowed to donate blood. You're not allowed to serve in the military. You're not allowed to visit your lover at the hospital. You're not allowed various public services. You're not allowed to have a Tax benefit for your relationship. You... you are simply seen as a very bad thing to exist....
So, how do you feel?
