I believe the scar that Loulan gave to Jinshi was both meant for her to take blame as a villian but also meant to symbolise her mother's revenge on the late emperor being fulfilled in some form (due to Jinshi's uncanny resemblance). I think that's why she inflicted the scar with her mother's ring and not any other tool. Shenmei was indeed a villian because of her own pride and ambition but that doesn't change the fact that she initially became a victim due to the late emperor's incompetence, which Jinshi also admits. And no matter how much Loulan disagrees with her, to the extent of betraying her, she also has an underlying sympathy and love for her mother. In the end, Loulan most likely would have been executed regardless of the scar since she was first in line for the Shi Clan. At least that's my take on it.
