My favorite character is Homura, down to her time ability (I love time travel) and how her character arc is at the same time fantastical, but so very human. I think I would have really liked Kyoko even more if she got more screentime and development.

2025-06-19 05:09:26 +0000 UTCI loved Homura's character; she is my favorite. This anime was one of my firsts that made me into an anime fan, It was Fruits Basket, Spice and Wolf, and Madoka Magica. I watched Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, and Yu Yu Hakusho on Toonami, but at the time I didn't know what anime was. These shows were my original animes that I sought out to watch and fell in love with the genre. Thank you for letting me relive those days. Man I dont even remember how I watched these shows... Pirate bay?

2025-06-13 19:18:21 +0000 UTCAs for the sayaka part, I think madoka’s wish doesn’t change the fact that soul gems might become sullied and eventually cause the end of magical girls but just the part about them becoming witches. So sayaka in the new universe likely became despaired similarly and eventually passed on but didn’t become a witch this time. I think the part where madoka is talking to her is more along the lines of she could have chosen to have a universe where sayaka didn’t make a wish in the first place so she would survive but she didn’t want to disregard the choice that sayaka made, so it leads to her eventually dying anyways.

2025-06-12 08:43:36 +0000 UTCI'm so glad you reacted to this and loved it. This has been my favorite anime since it first aired in 2011 and there's not a lot of reactions to it. My favorite character has always been Homura. Besides her coolness and backstory, she's always been the one I connected with the most, and without spoiling anything, a lot of what makes her one of my favorite characters in fiction actually comes from Rebellion. Madoka's a very close second, though. I just love how throughout the show, despite not having powers like the rest, always crying, and constantly talking down to herself, she never hesitates in trying her best to help out or simply be there for someone, whether it be for her friends like Sayaka, or "strangers" like Homura. She could've easily been an annoying and whiney character, but there's something about the way they portray her inherent kindness that I find very powerful. I love the rest of the characters, of course, but if you want more Mami and Kyouko I highly recommend the manga prequel / spin-off The Different Story.

And seeing her struggle to hang onto the hope as she faces such tragedy evokes so much emotion from the main cast of characters in story and also views is amazing; It’s so tragic, and yet her relationship with Kyoko is beautiful too and her relationship with Madoka is heart-aching. Similar to Homura, she’s protective of Madoka in so many ways. And she is happy for Hitomi even though she wants to be with Kyosuke. And her ending too; she just wanted to see the one she loved play one more time. She’s a swordswoman too, has a cape(representing her sense of justice), LOVE IT Kyoko is #2 for me though

The way she starts as mysterious aloof badass whose Intentions are ambiguous, but turns into such a sweet tragic character as everything falls into place and you realize what she's going through, and when her facade finally breaks down in the end i always cry. It was such a fun character arc and handled deftly.

2025-06-12 03:16:54 +0000 UTCI gotta say, homura always stuck with me, it was around episode 10 or so I kind of realized the show is really more about homura than madoka. Madoka is the driving force behind her actions but homura really is the key player in everything. This always struck me as Homura's show than Madoka's, which would fit, the creator has a real gift subverting expectation so that would fit his MO, making a show named and "about" one girl before revealing near the end that this secondary character was actually the main character all along. Urobuchi really has a skill at stuff that's just the right amount of dark, if you liked this may be worth looking into another show of his at some point in the future, psycho-pass, I can't speak to the movies but the TV show, particularly the first season is absolutely incredible and was created, directed, and written by the same guy. It's a little more on the "dark" end of things, dealing with a lot of stuff to do with free will and a more detective noir feel to it, but a hell of a series.

To clarify, the "new universal law" Madoka cleanses and then shatters the Soul Gem when a Magical Girl uses up all their power, to avoid them from becoming witches. But the Magical Girl still "dies" since they [their soul] disappears. The Homura scene at the end is her "last battle" as you can see her turning into a witch with those black wings but Madoka comes to save her from that despair so she smiles.

It’s my favorite anime of all time. Handles time travel in such a unique and scientific way. Also got a fantastic love story to boot :)
