it's time for another patreon poll where you all decide which show i watch next! whichever wins this poll will replace the M/W/Fr spot for the next few weeks!
thank you all for posting your show recommendations yesterday. it was reeeeally really hard to narrow down these shows, but if one of these shows doesn't win, there is still a chance i'll react to it sometime in the future.
i focused more on romance and fantasy options this time around.
i also have been eyeing windbreaker and classroom of the elite lately; so for anyone asking for either of those shows, i will be watching one of them after i finish squid game!
also, as a side note, this winter i'll be reacting to apothecary diaries S2 and sakamoto days, so you can look out for those as well 😇

If there is a choice between current seasonals and classics, i will prefer the reaction to the new, even if i like the other shows. I also know that the backlog is always growing, because every entry that makes it into a poll is worth it, and a few more.. ;-)

2025-01-02 08:17:16 +0000 UTCMmm no, you didn't really watch enough then. it's a slow burn that rewards you as you watch it and pay attention to its nuance, especially going into episode 6-7 and into the ending. It has a very carthatic ending with its last episode especially. It's not made to be an anime that you get hit over the head with the obviousness, which you do see with Makeine, hence its "anime"-ness. You're right, there is a lot of personality with Makeine's characters because there's not much subtlety, everything is a lot more spelled out front and center with them.

2025-01-02 07:03:22 +0000 UTCYou should watch both Blue Box and Madoka Magica haha. Blue Box is a very well executed vanilla high school romance, but Madoka really is something truly unique and personally I think it's a masterpiece.

Agreed that it's well directed but I just didn't find the characters interesting at all and personally I didn't really find it all the realistic. Makeine is definitely more "anime" for sure, although I don't think it's portrayals of romance were less realistic at all to be honest and the characters are 100x more interesting and full of personality. Not trying to throw shade on Stepsister haha. I see it's appeal, I just feel like it's really only for a very specific type of person so those type of "best anime of the year" expectations are a bit unrealistic for most imo.

Doesn't sound like you watched the entire season of Days with My Stepsister. I watched both and still preferred Stepsisters.

It's one of the best slice of life and romance anime this year. On Anime Corner, it won the Summer 2024 Anime of the Season, and also won: 🏅 Best Adaptation 🏅 Best Slice of Life 🏅 Best Drama 🏅 Best Soundtrack 🏅 Best Storytelling 🏅 Best New Anime 🏅 Best Male Seiyuu
