Comments

Also the Artist have nothing to do with OPs that's the anime studio. Most Artists wouldn't want their plots spoiled by an opening. Have you seen some of Naruto's or One Piece's Ops they ruin major plot developments.

Matt Brock

interesting. wasn't trying to come off super upset or mad or anything.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Jasmine - Oh believe me ik few of japanese people that doesn't watch the OP. I even got japanese friends that avoid it. So it's completely normal

Yes, it is 100% intentional by the author. Akito projects her mother onto all women, and Rin in particular. If you look at the dialogue of any conversation b/t Akito and Rin, you would swear Akito was talking about her mother.

Ietseatapples

I mean, yes, that's true. I suppose in this case I'm less bothered than I would be otherwise because there was some magical force that made Shigure love Akito before she was even born. And this series isn't unknown to have age gap relationships. I wish it didn't, but it does, so honestly that aspect is a pretty small drop in the bucket compared to all the other ways they are toxic together.

cosmotron

Something else creepy about AkiGure, look at the age difference and how old she was when he confessed.

Andrew Diseker

not a big deal, of course. but i have never once heard of a japanese person skipping an anime opening, its something only english speaking reactors do on the internet. not watching a part of a show just doesn't make any sense, i personally fail to understand why someone would hide there eyes from something the artist wanted you to see, is all.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

I didnt even think of that, poor Rin ;_;

M Khan

thank you, alana <3

shu

what a weird comment. i wasn't even one of the ppl who told alana not to watch the op lol, i just answered her question as to when she could watch it. you need to chill

shu

aaaah im gonna have to look out for that :')

Alana Misako

It was my own decision to not watch the OP, and we are not going to blame other people for me not watching the OP. and i really fail to see why you needed to blame westerners and bring that type of rhetoric into this lmao it's really not that big of a deal

Alana Misako

Agree Jasmine🫔

Flow Cut Up

The people who made the show made the OP and put it there for a reason. There is no valid reason to not watch what the original artist intended for you to watch. If it negatively impacts the series, that's the artists fault. Not mine or the reactor for watching the OP.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

oh lord please tell me ya'll didnt convince her to hide her eyes during an anime opening... i will never understand westerners and there need to totally blind themselves from all potential spoilers.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

I love Shigure. He might be the most honest out of the bunch when it comes to himself. He knows his strenghs and weaknesses, accepts them, and doesn't intend to change for the sake of others. It's actually pretty good because he thinks about his own need first. The others are, in a way, disposable to him. And yet, he's not all darkness and bad stuff. He's a people person, he understand how they act and think. That's why he can push them in the right direction. Being Hatori and Mayu, for example. Because Shigure cares about people, but in a twisted way. Just like Akito. Because he knows how life truly is, he doesn't turn his back on it. On the opposite, Ayame and Hatori are both weak and vulnerable to their feelings. They regret stuff, they want to do better. Not Shigure. As Mayu said it, he's the water you can never catch, who vomes and goes as it pleases. Talking about pity, his relationship with Akito is fascinating. He's the only one who truly cares about Akito, yet not seeing her as a helpless little girl. He doesn't excuse her behavior and doesn't comfort her like Hatori or Kureno would. Because he doesn't pity her, he loves her. Deeply, from the very start. It may be because of the bond at first. That's why it turned out so painfully for the other. Not for Shigure, even if he resents her. The love he felt never changed, and he can't help it. Even if the curse broke, that would not change. That's why their relationship could work if they both make an effort. Shigure by being more honest about his feelings with her, Akito by growing up and healing. But granted, Akito has to do most of the work. And the only one who can make a difference is Tohru. Who can understand what she's going through. By being her opposite, yet completing her.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

here it is, the akigure ship. tbh... they are my guilty pleasure ship, they are so toxic LMAO. also btw, you can look at the visuals for the OP starting from episode 6!

shu

Also, in another comment I said that Akito being a woman reframes previous interactions in an interesting way, but now you've met Ren there's another little aspect to consider. Not just the way that Akito generally treated the female zodiac members worse, but the way she treated Rin specifically. Rin, whose name is so similar to Ren, who is also beautiful and has long black hair. Some serious projection going on there, I think.

cosmotron

As you said, the AkitoxShigure relationship is veeeery toxic, but also so fascinating to me haha. Like, "I love her so much sometimes I want to spoil her rotten. And sometimes I want to crush her to a pulp." is such a wild statement

cosmotron

i watched her watch the ED and that's exactly what I was wondering 😭

M Khan

This opening is such a bopppppp. So happy we are here

keniskandar

feel better Alana! maybe all the crying will clear up your sinuses??? Hanajima and her black teacups, so on brand SHE IS THE BEST // I've noticed the Tohru focused episodes hit especially hard, and out of nowhere too // sheesh i forgot how much I love the ED too, both songs completely HIT this season, theyre SO FRUITS BASKET. as for the art style in the ED, I believe that's the original art style from the manga, really really nice homage, how does fruits basket do EVERYTHING right?? // Shigure's character is insane to me, I have never seen this level of fuckery and it's endlessly fascinating to me like I gotta keep watching the trainwrecks he leaves in his wake

M Khan

The art style of the ending is the same as the manga Also, maybe it doesn't matter much but I love how while Kyo gave the flower to Tohru with utter gentleness Machi to Yuki was like "Just take the stupid flower!" i love them, meanwhile Shigure and Akito well... I love how practically everyone in the fandom came to the same conclusion "Shigure and Akito are toxic but if they want to be like that then they should just be together and leave everyone else alone" lol

Sofia Venegas

I came here to talk about this, glad someone already posted it. It is such a nice detail by the end of every episode.

Liuzetz

s3 of Fruits Basket is a telenovela Btw, just to clarify: Akira is just the previous family head, not the last god (otherwise Akito could never be born w/ the god spirit..). Also, The god spirit & the Soma family head DO NOT have to be the same person. Akito is the family head because shes the only child of the last family head.. Its pure coincidence that she also happens to be the god.

Ietseatapples

I think that's totally valid! I know many people share that opinion as well and enjoy piecing together what the opening's visuals could mean for the story/characters, for example. In my opinion, what's considered a spoiler varies from person to person, so even if the team creating the OP thinks its visuals won't spoil a first-time experience, not every watcher may agree haha. I think everyone should experience new media the way they want to, so if Alana enjoys going into Fruits Basket completely blind and prefers avoiding even the smallest spoiler, there's no harm in missing the OP's visuals for now if that's what she'd like to do!

Rachel

the scream i scrumpt when akito revealed shigure slept with ren, they are MESSYYYY oml season 3 goes crazy

lilyveil133

The only thing that could even be considered a spoiler in the OP is also in the ending. Which she already watched. So she can just watch the OP, this gatekeeping with " you can only watch the OP after episode X" is so dumb. The OP are there for a reason.

Yumizu

If there were ever two people made for each other it's Akito and Shigure.

Andrew Diseker

season 3 yippee!! to answer your question - I believe you can watch the season 3 intro starting from episode 6 (after you finish episode 5) if you are avoiding any possible spoilers, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

Rachel

Just a thing to point out if you haven't noticed. The beginning of the ending song image occasionally changes as the show continues. The first episode Tohru's scarf is on the shelf next to the zodiac and the photo of her mom and in the second episode the scarf is replaced by Kyo's flower and Yuki's hat. I always thought it was a cool detail.

Matt Brock

Ah right, season 3 aka the try not to cry challenge: level impossible :) I swear I remember bawling my eyes out in almost every single episode but oh well, that's fruits basket for you hahahah
