im so sad that we're done with season 2 but also super excited to get into season 3! s3 uploads start on wednesday :)

I think the most interesting thing to consider with the reveal that Akito is a woman is the way it re-frames the way *she* has spoken about women throughout the show. Akito is not a sexist man, but rather a woman with internalized misogyny. And that reframes a lot of her character, and the way she has interacted with other women in the show.

It was not an analysis but it was a good discussion (like flowers and symbolism as well). Thought bubble, Semblance of Sanity and Ah Brandon reviews.

2024-12-10 12:40:36 +0000 UTCAs for the confusion about Kureno's animal form, it's understandable, basically the same thing happens with Haru, although his zodiac animal is the ox, he turns into a cow, and in Kureno's case, his animal is the rooster, but he turns into a sparrow, I clarify this more than anything because being a bird that flies is part of Kureno's character.

2024-12-10 05:42:42 +0000 UTCI COULD TELL from your reaction the first couple times you had seen Akito that those gears in your head were turning trying to actually determine if Akito was a girl. It was worth it getting to this episode to find out 😄. This reminds me of Yuzuru's boy/girl thing in A Silent Voice too. I like season 2 better but to me, that's just a sign of a very well made anime where season 2 built on season 1 really well. Season 3 though, better bring a seat belt and strap in. Great to know you're gonna be listening to the OP even though you won't be watching it. Musically, it's another one of my favorite OPs! Also, for the obvious reason, I'm glad this was an uncut reaction lol. p.s yes Yuki season is the best season.

The beach arc, Tohru/Kyo development, the Yuki development plus the fun singular episodes like the school trip and Cinderella play. ALSO season 2 we get to formally meet Kakeru who is one of my fave characters in the show. So all in all yeah, I definitely love season 2.

2024-12-09 23:14:16 +0000 UTCSeason 2 is incredible and it was so so so good to re-watch it with you. I look forward to your reactions every week, it makes me very excited! Your reaction to the twists were great. Akito is a very complex character and I am really curious to how you will feel about her in the future. Also, Akito being a woman does not change how awful she has been or her importance to the members and curse etc but it does change a lot in terms of perspective. It creates another layer in her character since she being a woman has been a secret and throughout the whole story, you see everyone treating and referring to Akito as a male. Makes you wonder why and how this came to be and how this could have impacted Akito's persona as well. Also, when we first hear Uo-chan talking about the man she met, she says that he is too much like Tohru. This episode shows a bit how kind and how much of a donor person he is. Even though he is not connected through the curse anymore, he still is willing to "sacrifice" his happiness to fullfill a promise, to make someone else happy, which is pretty much how Tohru has been caring herself for some time.

Whereas crunchyroll/funimation almost entirely omitted pronouns from their translations... Which honestly made things confusing imo. Because a LOT of viewers just thought Akito was female... they didn't realize she was pretending to be male... so the twist confused them.. "Why is the show revealing that this woman is a woman?" Its one thing if ppl guessed the twist...its another if they didn't even know that it WAS a twist.

She was drawn much more androgynous/masculine and since there was no voice acting it really came as a BIG surprise. There really was no indication that Aktito was not male beforehand. In the anime its just more obvious, Akito looks more feminine and has a female voice actress.

2024-12-09 16:13:38 +0000 UTCSeason 3 is by far the best season! Can't wait. There was a brief moment where the final season went to #1 on MyAnimeList! But fullmetal alchemist brotherhood fans review bombed it lol. There are a few bits from the manga that didn't make it into the final season (since the anime was funded for 63 episodes), so thats something to look forward to when you are done :D. However, the biggest skipped portion (The backstory of Tohru's mother) was adapted in the movie, Fruits Basket The Prelude, which you can also watch after the series is over.
