2024-09-01 08:05:04 +0000 UTCSome explanations/trivia: Kaiju literally means "strange beast," but in popular culture it usually refers to giant monsters (Godzilla being a well-known example) There are 3 classes of kaiju in this show: Yoju: smaller kaiju that usually accompany a larger one, or that show up afterward (like the spider) Honju: the larger, more powerful "main" kaiju (like the lizard) Daikaiju: an especially powerful kaiju Kafka's name is likely a reference to Franz Kafka, author of the novella "The Metamorphosis." It's a story about a man who woke up one morning and found that he'd randomly turned into a giant insect, and struggles to adjust to the change.
