2024-06-21 18:49:20 +0000 UTCAlso this is something that's only been made clear in the novels, u kinda have to pay attention reallyy hard in the anime to figure it out! the echidna roswaal and betty know is an older version of the echidna we see in the dream castle, her calling herself a "young maiden" in the beginning when subaru first sees her was kind of a hint on how they're both different! though most people would only catch that on rewatches lol, it's why i love rewatching rezero!! there's soo much foreshadowing it's insane actually

I'm totally with you on that in S1, I wasn't as interested in Emilia but S2 really changed my mind on her. I liked how this season was really introspective for each character as they faced their own insecurities and overcame them. I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting this series with you in S3!

Also remember the loop where Emilia went crazy and started kissing Subarus completely fucked up corpse? That scene hits quite different when you think about that Emilia being willing to have a kid with Subarus corpse

FYI, this is the only way Subaru can use magic (aside from his witch factor abilities) because he broke his gate during his fight with Garfiel.

2024-06-17 16:11:01 +0000 UTCThe Echidna that Betty and Roswaal see in the glass case is supposed to look quite a bit older than the Echidna that Emilia and Subaru see in the Trials/Tea Party. It is hard to convey that through animation so they just wanted to drive home the fact that they are different. It calls into question just exactly what then was Subaru and Emilia interacting with, not just for Echidna but the other witches as well. Roswaal's line to Subaru at the end of the season is a bit more haunting in the LN's. Not sure whether it is a bad translation or just adaptation choice. But he basically tells Subaru that now that they're on the same side he is sticking to Subaru's desire to save everyone, and if Subaru were to lose anyone he'll reduce everything to ashes including himself. It is quite haunting and dramatic. Also the original end of Season 1 was very happy as well. You watched the director's cut which included the first scene of season 2, but Season 1 actually ends with Emilia thanking Subaru for saving her and then Subaru genuinely smiling. Season 2 ends with Emilia smiling in a similar way. The author of the series intentionally waited to build up Emilia's backstory, he built up Rem so we can sympathize more with Subaru when she is lost and then builds Emilia as a character and her relationship with Subaru without the romance drama. I'm pretty sure the author has gone on record to say he wrote the story because he wanted to write about a silver-haired heroine so her development was always a matter of not if, but when.
