2024-06-15 15:17:23 +0000 UTCThey don't because they watched the crunchyroll version of the Frozen Bonds OVA, where Echidnas voice has been muted over the red text appearing when talking about Pucks previous contract. They tried tying her into that text again in episode 8 as they quickly made the text appear when she came down to headpat subaru but that was not enough for most people. For the brother/sister stuff, i think most people just think its nicknames instead of a serious relationship based on a shared past and "parent".

2024-06-15 11:53:17 +0000 UTCGod this episode never fails to make me tear up Betty had SO much buildup over season 1 and 2 and the payoff here was so damn beautiful but painful at the same time Also you are one of the very few reactors that actually noticed that it was indeed echidna speaking to emilia in the scene with the ryuzus. There was a veeeery big part from the novel cut in the anime and my guess is that this was a little "compensation" for it if you an call it that

2024-06-15 03:06:47 +0000 UTCMan no one ever catches onto the "unexpectedly reunited" when Betty is talking about Puck. Pretty subtle, but also extremely important since it lets the viewer know that Betty knew Puck before him and Emilia ever arrived at the mansion. And if Betty considers Echidna to be "Mother" then her calling Puck "Bubby" would mean... I also love the idea that both Betty and Roswaal were given Tomes of Wisdom. One was blank and one has the desired future of Roswaal. Both of these Tomes cause tremendous harm to the individual receiving them. They both completely abandoned the present in service of the future they promised or were promised. And I still cannot tell if Echidna did this knowingly or was genuinely doing what she felt was best for them. The Echidna we see in the flashbacks comes off more genuine, but of course the Echidna in the "Castle of Dreams" comes off completely inhumane during the Tea Party when discussing it.
