2024-04-18 21:46:18 +0000 UTCThe way your view on Larkan shifts in like five minutes after his flashback is a testament to this shows excellent writing, because it suddenly all makes sense why he is the way he is, and it isn't because he is a bad person like we conjected (again what Maomao constantly warns about, yet we still do...). The puzzle pieces never changed, they were always there, we just got to see a few of them in a bad light and it made us think bad things about it, but when the final pieces were added our view changed instantly. I genuinely felt bad for hating on him earlier. What a fool I had been. I think this is a life lesson, hell the whole show is a life lesson: Never judge someone based on conjecture. You will be wrong. Over and over again. Save your conclusion until you have a more complete set of information about the person.

2024-04-17 09:35:54 +0000 UTCIt's the small details that make this so great, like during that bet that Fengxian makes with Lakan. "If you win, I will give you whatever you want. If I win, I will take anything that I want," she says. Lakan's first thought terrifies him (presumably that he wants to sleep with her)... so he picks go, the game that she always wins. Gives me chills every time. Also, I recommend reading the first two light novels (which is season 1), especially if you want to know more about the world. For example, they give a bit more detail about stuff like the political side of things.

2024-04-16 22:11:12 +0000 UTCI had a lot of mixed feelings for Lakan after watching this episode. I got so annoyed with him before, and then I felt strong sympathy… makes me think about how almost every villain in Demon Slayer gets a sad backstory flashback that compels viewers to understand them :’)

2024-04-16 16:35:08 +0000 UTC"What you do not smell is called iocane powder. It is odorless, tasteless, dissolves instantly in liquid, and is among the more deadly poisons known to man." This was all I could think about when MaoMao laid out her rules.

2024-04-16 16:20:15 +0000 UTCI like how the show repeatedly told not to draw conclusions based on conjecture but still that is what everyone did about Lakan even tho it was never actually said that he did anything bad.

2024-04-16 14:50:34 +0000 UTCThe 180 this episode does on Lakan is amazing. Going from a weirdo strategist who seems evil to this tragic character. What a great season we had and I'm so glad they did a 24 episode season instead of 12 episode cours

2024-04-16 14:32:02 +0000 UTCI've started watching Spice and Wolf, and while I've never considered myself to be into romance shows, I've been enjoying this one.

2024-04-16 14:19:01 +0000 UTCI've loved watching you react to this! Sad to see it ending. I'm sure you've been suggested this numerous times already but I hope you end up reacting to the Spice and Wolf remake. It has a similar vibe to both this show and Frieren, in that it's mostly talking and has some similar themes. I know the topic of economics sounds awful on paper (at least it did to me, haha) but honestly while the story arcs do revolve around various economic plots, it is ALL about the interactions between the two main characters and they are fantastic. I ended up watching episode 1 of the remake and then went on to watch ALL of the older series in the course of a few days, haha.

2024-04-16 13:59:26 +0000 UTCAlso, yeah. What a tragic story. Fengxian intentionally ruined her own value as a courtesan to make her buyout fall through, and to make it possible for Lakan to afford the cost to buy her out himself. But then Lakan is sent away on a three-year military campaign, and Fengxian is now forced to take clients from the street, contracts syphilis, and eventually goers mad with grief, thinking that Lakan has abandoned her. Lakan returns from his military campaign and is told that she died, but she's actually still alive and living in the annex at the Verdigris House.

2024-04-16 13:48:12 +0000 UTCMaomao outsmarting Lakan was epic. The poison was just a distraction; her entire strategy was to get him to drink alcohol, which she knew he wouldn't be able to handle. And she knew that even though she couldn't beat him at Shogi, he would throw a match rather than force her to take a third drink and possibly die.
