Like serie just happens to be caring for some flowers. And she is the head of humanity’s imperial mage association. It's stated multiple times that amount of mana correlates to how long someone's been alive and series is frieren's master's master. Frieren is also not per se the oldest elf around, kraft literally calls her young.

2024-03-16 03:41:56 +0000 UTCI really like the contrast between serie's group of mages, all the same color cloths, almost no expressions, tests with hidden meanings etc. Compare to frierens group of test takers everyone has different colors, view points, and personalities. It's a really great way to contrast frieren and serie.

2024-03-16 03:01:01 +0000 UTCI think what Serie meant by suppressing mana is a "useless" skill, is that at her level she's been suppressing her mana, but it's still monstrously large and at the same level as Frieren's full mana. The proctor guy couldn't even notice the fluctuations in her mana, and only Fern who's been suppressing mana at such an early age could. So, to her it's a useless skill since that wouldn't trick demons anyway, they'll be able to tell she's strong despite supressing her mana in a more refined way than Frieren does. Fun fact, Flamme taught Frieren to suppress her mana to only show 10% of it, if Frieren's full mana is the around same as Serie's suppressed mana, that means Serie has about 10x more mana than Frieren.

So yes, she is suppressing her mana down to the level of Frieren's (Serie is likely much higher). Fern notices the fact that her mana is being suppressed which is why she is in awe, realising Serie is more powerful than Frieren.

Serie at multiple times has gone exactly against what she explicitly says, she says it's a waste to train humans, but always continues to do so, that she found Flamme 'disgusting' but smiled remembering her. It would not surprise me if she did in fact practice and master the technique to conceal mana constantly that she called useless, just because she has that much time to do so.

Serie seems very logical but at the same time follows her intuition and hunches like how she decided to teach Flamme.

2024-03-16 01:31:33 +0000 UTCMy theory: The first first class mage believed Frieren‘s amount of mana to be equal to that of Serie‘s, because he could notice her fluctuation. He never noticed Serie‘s fluctuations tho and that the big amount of mana we saw around her was her suppressed state. So she has a lot more mana than Frieren and is also way more skilled at concealing it for nobody to notice it until Fern and most probably Frieren.

When Serie tells Frieren she can't believe Frieren defeated the Demon King, someone really needs to edit in Yoda, saying, "And that's why you fail."
