TBH, this was where I almost stopped watching and waiting for Subaru to start being proactive (and actually effective at it) about his situation. I'm glad I stuck with it because the next couple episodes really redeemed him in my mind.

I prefer the directors cut but it makes timer reactions almost impossible until Alana switches over to the directors cut which is gonna be super awkward for her to figure out I imagine. Damn shame and some piss poor timing on crunchyroll's part.

This episode is now ep4, so you have to watch 5 next (unless you are watching somewhere else or this change was only in my country??)

2024-03-13 18:19:39 +0000 UTCGood question about how isekais work! To answer it yeah no going back home isn’t a thing at all! Most isekais are supposed to feed into a escapist fantasy. Like subaru most isekais are losers who are transported to another world to “start over” and they just simply stop being losers (typically becoming Mary sues) so things mostly go pretty smoothly. That’s where Re zero subverts that expectation laid out by most isekais as you’ve seen. It shows you the brutal reality of how difficult things would be so it’s kinda a criticism of the isekai fandom that subaru represents. He was expecting to already just have strong magic powers or a legendary weapon right off the bat. He was so excited and didn’t even care he left his world but reality is finally hitting him. So yeah welcome to the roller coaster that is Re zero! Lol
