A few things for those who are not well versed in imperial China. The Imperial City is notoriously hard to leave once you enter. Maomao has been kidnapped and sold or ransomed into the palace for labor. She can't leave unless she gets explicit permission and valid reasons to step out of the Imperial City are very limited. Eunuchs, as someone already mentioned in the comments, are castrated males who do various tasks around the imperial city. Tasks such as, administrative work or managing the palaces. The imperial system is quite complicated. There are ranks depending on their relation to the Emperor. So don't stress about not understanding at first. Even as someone who is of Chinese decend and have watched many historical Chinese dramas, it's still really complicated for me. Right now, I'm also enjoying this series. It reminds me of the countless of historical Chinese dramas my mother used to watch. The settings are accurate. The drama...too accurate. I hope you enjoy it!

The Special ED for episode 7 (?) is also by Homecomings called Hertz. That is a great list of EDs. For me Akuma No Ko (AoT) and Koshaberi Biyori (Komi) are in top 5 for sure. Oh, and of course Avid and Hands Up to the Sky (86). I guess Lapse gets the last spot.

Not explicitly mentioned in the episode, but the face powder is white lead, which was once used in cosmetics, before people figured out that it will give you lead poisoning. Babies and young children are particularly susceptible.

Good taste, I haven’t went for her other music yet. But I really enjoy the Ed, vibe is so chill for having the night time fun, the special Ed for that radio episode was different vibe, but also fit the wholesomeness so well. Really really enjoyable work. Insomniacs is so good and it definitely was overlooked in a packed season of anime. I had it next to Oshi No Ko as the top anime of spring 2023. The ED by Homecomings is one of my favorite EDs of all-time and it's one of the rare ones that got into my regular playlist rotation. Homecomings has some great other songs, like my favorite 'Us'.

I love both the OP and ED so much, they are so good to vibe the show in different styles. And the OST, oh my gosh was even better, fitting every single moment makes it more wholesome. I couldn’t find a single part to complain about, 10/10 for me no doubts. I still couldn’t believe people slept on it, so ironical xd.

That is a show that needs more love, it had the misfortune to come in an absolutely packed with SoL/Romance season. I still sometimes think I haven't listened to the ed in awhile, I should that. Actually yeah I should.

Nice trying, this is quite cute and funny, also some interesting mysteries, enjoy it!!! Besides, I want to recommend you “Insomniacs after school” for the upcoming poll, it’s really cute, wholesome and one of my favourite romance drama. A bit sad that it’s not popular but I still think you would love it.

Lead was used in makeup and paint back in the day as it made the colors more vibrant. Specifically, white lead was used in makeup which is easily absorbed through the skin and eventually caused lead poisoning

OMG! Yeessss, this is my favourite show from last season, next to Frieren! What a treat! Edit: similar as with Frieren, they aired the first 3 episodes at the same time, which was great to get into it imo! More context will be there in the next episodes! Can't wait!
