2024-01-10 12:23:36 +0000 UTCWhen NHK made a live-action version of this manga/anime, Naruse was put in as one of the five principal characters of the show (Komi, Tadano, Najimi, Rumiko - not in the anime - and Naruse). The actor who played Naruse is a dashing dude who is half Japanese and half Spaniard.

Turns out I was half-remembering a blurb from a fandom page that may not be super accurate to begin with: "Kometani's given name, ChΕ«shaku (εΏ ι), is a homonym for "comment" (注ι), while his family name "Kometani" appears to be a play on the English word "commentary"."

2024-01-10 02:36:25 +0000 UTCActually, Chushaku (Kometani-kun's first name) means an annotation or commentary (as a homonym), and Kometani refers to what is known as the "kome jirushi (rice symbol)" which looks like this (β») and always accompanies Kometani-kun's comment and is an equivalent of an asterisk.

Also I'm pretty sure Komi's classmates in Junior High were just thinking they're not worthy to be in the same group with Komi or something. The Kyoto trip is 10/10 and I can't wait for the reactions.

The final scene with Tadano and Komi is just so sweet, and we get to see how she's able to communicate clearly through the phone and from around the corner now... At least with Tadano :3c

And Naruse has all the tropes of an anime protagonist: He's an ikemen with brightly colored hair who sits in the "protagonist seat" (back row, nearest to the window). He's just not the protagonist of THIS anime.
