Despite being described as painfully ordinary. Tadano being exceptional at reading and navigating social cues is underlooked. Its unfortunate that in his and everyone else's mind he can't measure up to Komi...yet.

And in Tadano's defense, it would be hard for him to realize that Komi has feelings for him when she still hasn't quite figured that out about herself. Plus he's doing the whole "awkward MC" thing where he thinks that Komi is out of his league. Being friends is one thing, but dating? Impossible!
