To go to Valhalla, you must die in battle with a weapon in your hand. In the end however, Bjorn chose to drop his weapon and grab his best friend. Askalaad rarely makes mistakes in battle, but after the speech Bjorn made to him, he hesitated, causing him to miss the vital spot, and he was terrified at inflicting more pain to his friend instead of the quick death they agreed on. It just shows how much he cared for Bjorn!

I think the reason why Bjorn ask Askeladd for a duel because he knows that hes going to die soon and to go to Valhalla is to die fighting like a viking.

I never realized how much Bjorn and Askeladd were like brothers or best friends until the end of this episode. I'm glad Bjorn died knowing that Askeladd was his friend this whole time.

I think the only reason Askeladd gave Atli that gold arm-band in the last episode was because of how he was taking care of his brother. It likely reminded him of his mother and how a young Askeladd took care of her after her “heart-snapped”. The part of Askeladd that was genuinely caring and kind to his mother is the only part of himself that he likes. As awful as he can be at times, that version of himself still comes out from time to time. Basically Askeladd is a Danish Tsundere.
