Lol this is actually the reason why I didn't watch Clannad for years... but eventually I forced myself to start and I got used to the character designs within a couple episodes. And as others have said, the story is just goated.

If you're a newer fan, the age definitely shows and can be off putting. But older anime fans are probably used to it and don't mind as much.

It's an older Kyoani style in the lineage of AIR. No doubt it is showing the age, but the story isn't. That's probably why many people are willing to see past the "bug eyes" etc. I'm not a Clannad zealot (I do like it), so I acknowledge that it has imperfections.

How do people watch clannad with those Bug eyes is beyond me. Like their eyes are like deer eyes, on the side of their skulls it's so scary. There's entire reddit threads on why people feel the art is off putting.

I hear you. The first round not deciding the winner is basically a given, so it's really a process to narrow down the field. The run-off forces a majority vote decision by having only two choices. This isn't without its own issues, of course, meaning most of all more time and work for Alana, so I would completely understand if she would rather not consider it.

Tbh if you're gonna end up watching OPLA anyway, it would be better to do it now while their marketing is in full throttle. Also, I don't ever see OP winning any poll like this as seasonal watchers don't tend to watch long running series like OP, which sucks since it's long running for a reason but oh well 🙏🏻

Hey Alana, going forward I would recommend having more of a mix of type of shows in the schedule. As much as I like my rom coms, this 86 (story driven) and Yamada-Kun (Rom com) combo was a great balance. Just to have more diversity on the channel and to get new viewers. I understand if these shows that you have on the polls are those that you have on your watchlist. It’s just a suggestion though.

Clannad and Vinland Saga are both masterpiece IMO. Wotakoi great show as well! OP live action I gotta say for a live action. I really enjoyed it for what it was. My vote goes to Clannad. I'm on a Kyoani phase right now and rewatching Hibike euphonium before season 3 drops next April. I also like it when reactors watches older shows.

I recommend to Alana that she make an executive decision to watch Clannad outside of the polls' results. Clannad may never win the most votes in the future polls. But it's a good show, a great one in Cour 2 (After Story). I know Alana would appreciate Clannad.

If Alana ever feels like doing it that way, I would really want her to consider a run-off system in which, unless one show wins 50%+ votes outright in the first round, two top selections advance to the finals where the majority votes decide. This way, it would always be the majority voting that controls, not the plurality, the latter of which is how the current polls are set up.

I hope if there is an opportunity for you to go back in time to check out older series. I am going to keep recommending Shadows House and Astra Lost In Space. As for this season definitely recommending Undead Girl Murder Farce; the director and part of the animation team worked on Kaguya Sama so there are a lot of great stuff to check out in that anime.

EVA is essential viewing for any anime watcher. It sucks that so many older anime get ignored by reactors because they lose in all the polls, not their fault, its our fault. All reactors should be watching EVA before 86, K-On! before Bocchi the Rock, Yu Yu Hashuko before any mainstream battle shounen. Sad.
