but i loved the interactions between frederica and shin this episode. going back and editing this after watching episodes 18/19 was really interesting, especially hearing more about kiri D:

Crow globally tends to symbolize on coming death and hard times, I would assume it means the same in Japan. Since crows are scavengers that eats corpses, they tend to show up in great number after great dyings, so some where along the line got a reputation for being the harbringers of death and calamity.

2023-08-25 19:21:32 +0000 UTCAn episode of talking, but...what an episode. Asato's (the author) dialog writing is phenomenal. When Frederica talks to Shin alone you know will be an awesome scene. They relationship of found siblings is touching. Also Shin and Rayden dialogs are superb.

2023-08-25 16:58:41 +0000 UTCIn the first episode of cour 2 we see Lena's room. The map shows the red area to be at the borders of the map, showing the influence of the legion. The board of her team members had many more faces. Now the red area has expanded a LOT, and there's less faces in the board too showing that things are starting to get dire in her front. Remember also that this show uses a lot of visual simbolism, Shin is warning them of a huge attack to come, we see the huge number of crows which usually tend to happen when there's corpses around. Something big is coming and death is inminent. We also see a dead Morpho Butterfly caught in the spider web when Frederica talks about Kiri, the meaning of this will become clear later on. There's 2 reasons why the Republic doesn't answer: 1.- Communications cannot reach them because of the Einstagfliege (Legion Mechanical Butterfly), these are made to block communications and any type of energy wave, they also capture solar energy and feed them to the legion. 2.- The Republic doesn't have any interest in contacting other countries until all of the 86 are eradicated since they don't want to be seen as criminals, something that Lena's uncle said when he confronted her in Cour 1.
