Our son, who is mixed-race, asked us about Anju, seeing her hair. I told him about her background and then added, even though this is a hard one for a kid to take, "And what they did to her was determined by her not being 100% the "correct" race." However difficult it must have been to hear, our son appeared to understand this injustice at the gut level.

In case you would like to know the show censored what Anju's branding said. In the LN it was clear. Other 86 branded Anju with the word's "Whore's Daughter" since she is part Alba.

Good thing about it is that it has AMAZING rewatch value, as you can pick up many new things once you re-watch it knowing all the dynamics. Now on the details. The Alba has 3 groups: Adularia = Silvery Blue hair, they are citizens Alabaster = Snow White Hair and Eyes, they are citizens Celena = Silver Hair and Eyes, they are nobility (Lena) Anju is mixed raced, she's half Alba (Adularia) and half Celesta (one of the groups of the Caerulea, they have silver hair and pale blue eyes), due to her heritage, she was abused by other 86's in the camps. What she has "Whore's Daughter" scarred in her back and she's very self conscious about it which is why if you look back when Daiya, Theo and Haruto were spying on the girls, Anju was fully clothed. Secondly, yes, every 86 knows what the "Spearhead Squadron" is, every 86 is fully aware.
