also i know i ask a lot of questions but they're all rhetorical, please don't answer them as i'll probably figure it out on my own as i watch through the show!

2023-03-05 03:23:25 +0000 UTCI know that in Japan aishiteru (愛してる) is pretty much only used during marriage as a vow to always love and be with someone. It is used to describe the actions one is promising to commit to, as you just said. It is similar to vows like 'in sickness and health'. It is a statement of commitment and that one doesn't just love someone, but that the love will be eternal. It is far more meaningful that just 'I love you', English have no true equivalent to it. The Japanese are such romantics, they really give the French and Italians a run for their money!

2023-02-24 16:14:29 +0000 UTCI once had a chance to see Yui Ishikawa, CV Violet, in person when she gave a stage reading in a small & intimate venue (size of a school classroom) in Tokyo. An unpretentious and very sweet person (and looks exactly like in photos). It was just her and a piano accompanist in this stage reading, and Yui certainly demonstrated her talent. In one sequence, Yui was reading the parts of a young woman and her deceased mother conversing. When it was the daughter's turn, Yui was actually crying, as we could see tears in her eyes and Yui was sniffing. But when it was her mother's turn, just 10 seconds later, Yui's voice completely changed, with no effect from the crying at all. And she did that back and forth for 10 minutes. After that scene was done, when it became time for her to sing, Yui was still sniffing and clearly trying to clear her throat. It was amazing. I still cannot figure out how she instantaneously masked the effect of her actual crying when she did the non-crying part. It wasn't like "I'm going to clear my nose and throat while someone else is doing the other line" because she was the other line and was back to crying the line after that! I knew Yui is also a stage actor, but I had never seen anyone pull that act off anywhere.

For instance, in the restaurant scene of Ep.1, Hodgins was seen eating with chopsticks. And chopsticks make repeat appearances, even beyond the city of Leiden. The food that shows up is an intriguing mixture too. I want the fish that Violet was eating (at least slicing) in Ep. 1.

The time it’s set in the average person does not has the ability to read and write so the common folks would use these “educated”-(emotional intelligence) ‘dolls’ to write a message. But the meaning is further explained in the show but it’s not just the writing the dolls do but the feelings as well (notions of empathy and sympathy)

2023-02-24 03:59:35 +0000 UTCAishiteru…. I don’t think it’s understood how loaded and deep the word “aishiteru” actually is. It is rarely used in layman’s terms in most cases people say tsuki or daitsuki (I like you). But “aishiteru” is more of a feeling, a memory, a deep fondness which is portrayed by action rather than words. It is an endearing word which is also used to convey deep feeling at times like the final ‘goodbye’. And for the General to use it then couldn’t have been more perfect. As you watch the series it really makes you question what the difference is between “love” and “aishiteru”. This show really taught me a lot and hope you enjoy all the hidden meaning and subtexts in its writing, imagery and sound. It a show you can truely analyse and interpret in many ways and truely a masterpiece.

He has remained productive in Japan, recently writing the music for the NHK drama, "The 13 Lords of the Shogun."

2023-02-24 01:10:16 +0000 UTCThis series wasn't adapted from a manga but from a light novel, a very short one to be honest since it only had 2 volumes I think and some extra book that was made into one of the movies. Same with 86, the anime was adapted from the Light Novels Volume 1 to 3.
