"World Enough and Time" - Star Trek: New Voyages - Full Reaction

This is a one-off reaction of a recommended Star Trek: New Voyages (Phase II) episode!

After some consideration, I decided to obscure the video and audio for this episode as well as the Star Trek: Continues episodes, which will start next week. Even if I could potentially get away with showing the full episode, since they are free to view on Youtube, it still feels disrespectful to infringe on that copyright and collect money when the productions are non-profit.

Anyways, here is the link to this episode so you can follow along: https://youtu.be/l4TC5wl0IzE

Also very glad Bunny decided to include this!!

OK. Everybody has basically covered everything already, apart from one glaring problem with a very good script: Jim Kirk would not flirt with Sulu’s daughter. Completely out of character. First time seeing this episode, and i’m otherwise impressed!

I was one of the people who recommended this episode and I can’t thank you enough for introducing it to your audience. It’s lesser known and under appreciated compared to Star Trek Continues. This was George Takei’s performance of a lifetime. If you rewatch you can catch many subtle acting flairs and performance pivots as Sulu went through his emotional journey and changed throughout the episode. And of course Christina Moses was an amazing, adorable, and powerfully poignant Alana. You’d make a great McCoy! And you were wearing the color or the part. After the drugs from McCoy, Sulu was still mentally affected (he got his “sea legs” back so could leave). He was probably still high for the rest of the episode since they very quickly had the disruption attempt leaving only 30 minutes till destruction, which helps color watching his performance. The foundation of everything here is the writing. Such a tight script, so full of poetry, so powerful mirroring Shakespeare’s play. And lots of great through lines. Just two through line examples that were most obvious: - Kobayashi Maru threaded throughout - Alana telling Kirk “I could never be that brave”, and meaning it. Kirk tells her that good people never know what they’re capable of until they have to, and then later Alana saves the entire ship with her own bravery. - so many other example I like your trick for getting comfortable with the characters. I have a different approach … I know these are actors who are given a character with backgrounds and motivations to portray, but I allow them to act out their own interpretation of that character as long as they are true to the core of who the character is, and take it in an interesting direction that I like to watch. Jeffrey Quinn as Spock for instance was wonderful and true to who Spock is, but I felt it was a very different portrayal than Nimoy had for that character. Edith vs Miramanee: Paradise Syndrome is a wonderful episode, but in City On the Edge of Forever Kirk fell in love with Edith Keeler as himself, fully aware and eyes open. In the Paradise Syndrome he wasn’t really himself when he met Miramanee, and circumstances put them together under false pretenses, and then he was a different person when Spock broke him out of the Kirok mindset.
