Spock vs. Scotty demonstrate the perfect difference between a scientist (Spock) and an engineer (Scotty). Scientists figure things out, engineers make things work. (and in the interest of full disclosure, I am an engineer; making things work is fun) "My bearin's... my poor poor bearin's" --Scotty.

Carlos Stevens

Ok, Scotty and Engineering here we go: Lt. Cmndr Montgomery "Scotty" Scott is Chief Engineer of the Enterprise. He and his Engineering staff are responsible for maintaining the Enterprise's engines, making sure they stay in tip top shape and repairing any damage the ship or engines might take in our adventures. Basically he's the ship's mechanic. He's also our go-to, along with Spock, when it comes to investigating alien tech or when we have to come up with some inventive gadget to get us out of a particular situation. Scotty also has a particular affinity for the transporter systems and we often, though not exclusively, see him there beaming people to and fro. That area where we saw Kirk and Khan's final hand-to-hand fight was in Engineering. To put it in context of the entire ship, that bottom part, often called the drive section, is where Engineering and most of the ship's workings are located. Basically Scotty's domain. The power is sent to the nacelles, those extensions protruding out the back, and they generate the energies needed for faster than light travel. The top part, the saucer section, is where most of the day-to-day stuff is located. Crew quarters, labs, rec space, and then the bridge perched on top. I think the idea with several cold planets is that they're very old with their star's cooling down as they die, and that's why they often have ruins and such of past civilizations that we're investigating. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll visit some more varied locales before to long ;)

I don't think they were married when this episode was filmed.

"WHAT IS THAT!" That, my dear Bunny was Ted Cassidy... Also known as Lurch from the Addams Family.

Carlos Stevens

"I see a nipple!" lol Yeah, Majel did too, and more. You can see her eyes looking Sherry Jackson up and down, possibly thinking: "Gene! Did you sign off on this b's costume?" lol Love your reactions Bunny! Another fun ride next.

MertzRocks

Majel only appears with dark hair as 'Number One' in the original pilot THE CAGE. That must be what you were thinking of, Bunny.

What a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting another ST reaction so soon!

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Great reaction as always Bunny. I didn't remember this episode that much cause I thought it was slow paced and confusing, but watching it again with you perhaps I need to re-evaluate this one. It does pose some weighty questions (what makes a human a human, etc.) and it was nice to see Christine Chapel given front and center treatment for a episode.

Greg Polander

I think nurse Chapel wears different wigs.

"Why do I feel this upcoming sense of dread?" Cause you've already been trained in Star Trek never to take anything at face value! LOL
