The next character has been chosen!

Completely fair. I was just curious if it was in the cards.

Little Whopper

This is a possible option, but the addition of new animations will be chosen by vote for selected characters.

Dragonimator

Curious. Ever going to expand the tracer or D.Va interactions?

Little Whopper

That's totally fair. It sounds like you have a vision in mind for your game and you are completely entitled to it. I only commented to explain why I was losing interest. I really do respect the awesome work you do in providing a great game for the internet. c:

I understand your point and your concern. But I think it is based on a lot of assumptions about the evolution of the game's community. New subscribers not only come when a new character is released but can also join after discovering the game for the first time and having only seen Death or Jade would reinforce the furry part of the community, even if there are currently four other human characters in it. There's also the fact that, as a furry myself, I want to push for characters that I enjoy working with, furries but also for Rouge in this particular case. To give you my point of view on the game, I want to make something that will suit a lot of people BUT that won't be smooth and banal, some people will enjoy some characters and others will enjoy others. Whatever humans, human-likes, furries. The next polls will be designed to focus on certain aspects of the game and will therefore push in the desired direction with the right characters. I understand perfectly what you're saying, but that's not taking into account that I want and have the possibility of pushing towards certain content through the polls. This was just the first poll, quite large of course, but it gave an initial direction, and I intend to define the next poll to compensate for the previous one. For example, if an extension is chosen for the City, the next proposal will be for Reptiland or whatever. The same goes for the characters, not only with the alternating human/furry polls but also depending on the previous choice, if a scalie has been chosen then only furries will be proposed, if female then more male, or if not really furry, then more furry for the next ones. I want to find a balance in the game without it falling into one extreme or the other and without it becoming full of compromises. I don't want it to be all humans, or all furries, or just a flat, basic mix of the two. In short, my aim in balancing the polls is to ensure that there's something for everyone in the future. And I don't want the polls to become a place of compromise that satisfies no-one - if one doesn't suit some, the next one will. I can't guarantee that it's a system that will suit everyone, but it's something I want to at least try. I think the bigger the game gets, the more likely it is that a lot of people will find something in it that suits them.

I think we are having a misunderstanding. I want to reiterate that I don't believe that Lola and Judy aren't furry or aren't furry enough. The only character on the list where there's a solid argument that they aren't a furry character is Rouge. And by providing those statistics I think you've proven my point: Those 14% of people who voted for just her and nobody else on the list aren't furries. They're your D.Va/Tracer/Gwen fans who jumped on the opportunity to have a more similar character be added to the game rather than a furry one. And they were successful, as the poll was so close that that 14% was enough. If even half of those people are as I describe, they had no business voting in this poll and the raptors should have won. When I bring up Lola and Judy, I'm not talking about right now. I'm talking about the future in a world where Rouge was chosen. Their poll interest is mid now, but you have to think about what's going to happen months from now when the poll is reintroduced. I don't know your exact update schedule but I assume that another human character will follow Rouge. That's three (four?) nonfurry characters in a row and an extremely firm commitment towards steering the game content away from furry and towards vanilla/normie characters from popular cartoons. This is going to pull in a larger base of people who like those sorts of characters and those people are going to be more likely to see Judy and Lola as the best options of the remaining choices. (Not characters who I have any kind of problem with! I'm simply saying what's going to happen.) Along the same vein, some of the furry community you cultivated by introducing Jade is going to see the writing on the wall and leave, as there's no reason to patron a game for 4-6 months (my assumed time until this poll comes back) when you know there won't be content you're interested in added in that time. Those people are more likely to vote for furry OCs like the raptors than characters from popular cartoons, and their voices will not be heard as much next time around. The opposite is not true, which is why selecting Rouge is a mistake imo. She was clearly propped up by a rather large number of people whose needs are going to be perfectly well served with the next human update. They would have stuck around had the raptors won. A similar situation may have happened in reverse if you had opened with a human poll and included, say, a monstergirl character. The effect is going to continue to be unfairly more pronounced in the furry polls though: Human characters are likely to have 0 furry features that would generate any interest from most furries, meaning that furries are less likely to unfairly sway the human polls. All furry characters bear humanoid characteristics to some degree though, meaning your normie community will continue to have cause to unfairly sway the furry polls by piling onto the least furry character among the present options. This effect will only become more pronounced as more human-like characters being implemented grows your normie community and shrinks your furry community. This is why it's so important imo to dig into the reasons behind the statistics as you have but ultimately make the informed final call yourself. Having polls serve and inform you is better than being beholden to them.

I've analysed the votes in detail (where several votes per person were possible by the way): 39% liked all the furry characters proposed (and gave at least one vote to Rouge and/or Lola and/or Judy) 38% only like furry characters other than Rouge, Lola or Judy 23% only like Rouge and/or Lola and/or Judy (of which 14% only like Rouge) Let's assume that Rouge, Lola and Judy aren't furry enough. That still means that 77% of the game's community like the ‘really furry’ characters. Only 23% have an exclusive preference for more popular characters such as Rouge, Lola or Judy. In the future, there's a good chance that a character other than Lola or Judy will be selected. Just the fact that raptors came a close second shows that there are a lot of people who vote for non-human like/classic characters. But the ‘true-furry’ community still has to stay, otherwise they'll let a ‘less-furry/classic’ part increase their own influence in the next poll.

I think that Rouge's design comes across as "hot cartoon girl" with very token bat characteristics. And that's why she's so broadly appealing - non furries who enjoy characters like D.Va/Tracer/Gwen can still get into her too. (And no disrespect to those folks!) They were able to express their votes through a sort of "hybrid" character. I do think that a real furry character would be selected next time the list is proposed because I would consider every other character on the list to be pretty unquestionably furry. Though I suspect characters like Lola or Judy would start to jump up sharply in popularity as existing characters (now including Rouge) pull in a base of people who would enjoy and vote for characters that are as similar as possible to the ones already in the game. Along the same lines, people who are interested in characters like the raptors would in that time find that their interests aren't being served and leave. I think this is just usually the nature of polls. If you don't want them to homogenize your product it's better to use them as a data point and make the final call yourself depending on your creative vision of the game or strategic vision of the product. (Sorry I do UX research for my work and can nerd out quiet easily about stuff like this, haha)

I don't really agree with your comment. The fact that the Raptors came in a close second proves that a lot of people don't vote for a vanilla character, same goes for the others that follow. If the same list is proposed next time, don't you think the raptors or a “real” furry character will be selected?

Dragonimator

Ehh, yeah. I was really pulling for the raptors, or any actually furry character x.x Kind of not surprising though? This game has a huge normie audience so with the poll system being what it is we can probably expect that the most vanilla/humanoid/normie character will be chosen in each of the furry polls. Probably just need to realize that this game isn't really going to be for me haha.

Waffle

Eh, not my choice, sadly not content ill look forward to but it is wat it is. Better luck next time i guess.
