By the way, the "Gulf" he mentions occasionally is the Gulf of Mexico. It's a large bay, and it borders the Southern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. It's where the hurricanes blow in from.
Fun fact: Louisiana is the most flood-prone state because it's the outlet for the massive Mississippi River. Much of the state is part of the Lower Mississippi River Basin, making it a soggy place. New Orleans is 8' (2.4 meters) BELOW sea level!
