Alastor: Oh, that was simply astonishing! Everything had sound in that! It was magical! The things they can do nowadays with technology! This was a most fabulous even, Darling! Thank you for inviting me. Now, let's get you home!

(opens theater door fx, heavy rain and thunder fx)

What the -? But it wasn't supposed to rain tonight. Damn it, Jonathan (WWL's weatherman), you said the storm was heading West!

Oh, Darling, I-I wish we could wait it out, but this is a large system that's supposed to last all night.

Oh, that's half a mile from here!

(Alastor grunts in pain)

(theater lights shutting off fx)

The theater's closing... we can't stay here.

(keys in door lock fx, struggling with handle fx) Come on! (door opens and shuts fx, rain hitting building fx)

(panting) I swear, I'm going to flay Jonathan next chance I get! Here, I'll take my jacket. (wringing out water fx)

Well, you're going to be here for a while, you might as well make yourself comfortable.

Yes, yes, this property has been in my family for generations. The Bellivues have properties throughout both the Garden and Audubon districts (affluent neighborhoods in New Orleans).

It's - it's a modest bungalow, certainly not our largest residence.

(Walking up stairs fx, reverberation fades as they reach second landing)

I do apologize for such a terrible ending to the night. Had I had knowledge of this tempest, I would have given you a rain check (postponed plans).

I... had things to do... that were unavoidable. but this storm has messed everything up!

(opens guest room door fx) Well, here's the room. Um... the bathroom's over there, and the robes are in the armoire (wardrobe).

Um... I'm turning in for the night. I have to wake up early tomorrow.

No, no, I'm not trying to avoid you, I'm just exhausted from running in the rain.

Dear, you misunderstand... you're absolutely alluring company. I... I just need some rest. I'll see you tomorrow.

(walks away fx)

Lock your door.

Why? Because this city's plagued by burglars! What do you think?!

F-forgive me, I-I mean... if someone were to break in, this unlocked door would be an invitation to harm. You just can't be too careful now. Goodnight, cher.


(scene change)


(Listener opens door fx, walks down stairs)

(Alastor panting in downstairs room)

What are you doing here?! I told you to lock yourself in your room!

No! Stay away!

Well... it's too late now, I suppose....

There are... things about myself... dark things... that I hide.

You were never meant to see me like this. I just wanted to take you home, and after that, I'd be free to... forage.

(chuckles slightly) Oh, Darling, don't you wonder why the victims have been drained of blood, even though there were no obvious wounds on their bodies?

Have you not considered... that the reason is... supernatural?

No. I'm serious. There are things in this world that live in the realm of shadows... things you can not possibly fathom.

Legend speaks of beings that feed on others, that drain their very life essence.

Yes, Darling... I'm speaking about that dreaded word that has floated around this city for centuries: vampire.

I'm scaring you? (laughs) As you should be scared. (stands from couch and walks towards Listener fx) Twelve victims have been found without a drop of blood left in their bodies, with only two punctures on their necks. There are no clues left at the scenes as to the killer's identity, or how he extracts the blood.

It seems a voracious vampire is on the loose in this city of vices. And, fate has placed you, out of all locations... in his mansion.

Oh, cher, you gullible thing, you. Did you not question why I insisted on returning you to your residence? Why I was hesitant to bring you here? Why I advised you to lock the door? Why I was thrilled that you were a foreign transplant, with no family here?

(chuckles) Yes. Indeed. I am the vampire.

Oh... how I wanted to break down your door, and suck you dry. But, I was able to control my hunger... just barely.

Before today, I saw you as just another meal... another pretty face to charm utterly senseless. And I was fully prepared to whisk you away to Audubon park, and feast on you tonight.

People would mourn you for a day, and then step right over you, before you were even in the ground.

But then... when you showed me such kindness by offering your spare ticket, my attitude changed. You thawed something, cold and frozen in me. And I knew I didn't want to harm you.

And I thought it would be easy enough to stifle my thirst...

(walking toward Listener fx) ...but now, you're standing before me, wearing nothing but a gossamer robe, and my mouth waters.

Oh, how I didn't want to end your life, truly! But I fear, my instincts are stronger than my conviction.

(walking stops)

What a curious little rabbit you are. Why aren't you running for your life? I'm sporting, I'd give you a head start.

(laughs) You think I won't resort to feeding on you? Oh, but Darling, I just revealed what I am! A murderous bloodsucker stands before you, fangs bared. What makes you think I won't empty you right here and now, on the floor, on my rug?

So you think just because I haven't attacked you already, indicates that I wish you now harm? Oh, what a naive ingénue (a foolish woman) you are.

I could grab your hair like so, pull your head back to expose that plump Carotid artery of yours, and suck until I'm drunk on your blood.

(chuckles) You're quivering in spite of your brave front.  The feel of your trembling muscles brushing up against my lips, makes me weak. How mouth-watering!

I've heard about the practice before, but I've never done it on one of my victims.

It's said that a vampire can turn a human into one of them. After the vampire drain the human, they feed that human their blood.

No! I couldn't condemn you to such an existence! you'd have life everlasting, and you'd have to prey on others.
