Added 2022-12-17 17:03:23 +0000 UTCIt's becoming increasingly obvious that the much-maligned DCU is being completely rebooted, and this means we've likely seen the last of Gal Gadot in her WW outfit. As with most of the DCU, the possibilities for WW were largely squandered, in part due to what can only be called an abysmal head-scratcher of a second movie. (with the exception of Kristen Wiig. She really tried, and until they made her character go full CGI, her performance was probably the best thing about it).
Gadot wasn't my ideal choice to play my favorite superheroine. Like a few online posters who admitted to liking slightly...brawnier ladies...I thought she was too modelesque and stick-thin (and still do). However, she really captured what makes WW different (and for me, one of the few interesting comic book heroes). Like the scene on the London streets in the first movie: she's beating the snot out of a spy, and stops to plead with him "No, let me HELP you." It captured the feminine ideal that Marston had in mind when he created the character.
From a femdom/Mankiller Universe perspective....ugh! What a waste. A couple of thrown guys and a turned over WWI tank. And, in the best scene, some obviously CGI baddies getting pummeled, obviously fatally, in the Snyder JL movie. Oh, we could have had so much more of that, had they chosen the "warrior goddess" side of her instead of the "peace and love" princess.
Anyway, here's to Gal, who largely delivered in what was an almost impossible role. Now we can sit back as Warners probably hires some 19-year-old with no gravitas at all (or muscle, I guarantee).
