Traditionally speaking a phoenix is not immortal. It is 'reborn' from the ashes of its demise; continuity of self is not guaranteed and the 'new' phoenix may not be the same as the 'old'. That being said, each author is allowed to modify the 'traditional' story however they want to suit their setting. This version is fine in my opinion. Plus, y'know, boobs make for better approval ratings.
