An ancient alien artifact, buried under ground, causes the gravity of a large area to be reduced to 1/20th of Earth's normal strength. Hundreds of years later a town was established there, drawing in many ultra large citizens from around the continent, drawn by the advantages of the phenomenon. The sign into town reads: "Welcome to Lifton. Come in and take a load off." Sometimes when exploring ancient ruins you find artifacts. Sometimes those artifacts are DNA blueprints for an alien race. Sometimes said artifacts activate on contact with living creatures. Think like in Independence Day where the scientist is like "they don't let us out much". But instead of being crazy looking the scientist left to oversee them is adorable!
