The adventure begins....

It is a dark thing. All it knew was darkness, the cold and loneliness associated with it - what felt like it’s whole existence, it had languished in it, trapped or there willingly? It did not know.

Then suddenly, there was light.

It now felt the warmth of the sun, though it had no physical form to properly enjoy its heat. It knew the feeling of wind coasting through its atoms, sending wisps of smoke to curl around its consciousness. It knew the scent of something, bright and vibrant and sweet and alive. It knew taste, crisp and fresh and so very very exhilarating.

Though it had no eyes, it saw the word around it, and it felt joy.

It spread out its very being, languishing in freedom. The colour blue spread wide and far, peppered with fluffy clouds of white. Below stretched an emerald blanket, broken apart here and there indistinguishable settlements. In the distance loomed the grey blue of mountains, the tallest of which stretched into the heavens itself.

Below - directly below - it wasn’t green. No trees grew in the crater, its walls littered with contraptions, ropes and pulleys. Creatures scurried about, controlling the contraptions, shifting the rocks that littered the crater - utterly oblivious to its existence.

This filled it with elation. It wasn’t known. It was free to do as it wished.

It was free to go where it wished.

It could go… anywhere.

It undulated in pure happiness, taking the moment for itself, before it paused and thought of which way it should go. There were now so many options, so many choices, so many things it can witness and do…

It was torn.

There was the closest of the mountains it saw. Buildings made of a gleaming red and black adorned its peak, surrounded by the bright trees. There was a serenity about it, a pillar of isolated calm and beauty.

Closer to the crater, a couple kilometers away, there was a grand building. Not quite a castle, it’s spires stretched tall above the trees, a single tower in the centre dominating it all. With gilded walls and protective gargoyles, it held an air of gothic majesty.

Then, further away from both of the places that called it, there was a third. One of the settlements, one where gleaming spires pierced the sky, almost attempting to mimic the enormous mountain. Light bounced off of them, glittery and attention catching, a beacon in every way.

Which way… which way…. Which way……….
