I'm not that well-versed in Japanese, but at the very least I know when I hear the basic grammatical sign of a question. It's just a whiplash when for 5 minutes they're obviously going as word-for-word as possible, including sentence structure, and then suddenly it's like they got hit with a creativity spell and started making up sentences that are just close enough to the original to not be called outright mistranslations.

Ik it's the popular opinion that Crunchy subs aren't good nowadays, but these fan-subbers definitely don't help that sentiment. Flip-flops between trying hard to translate word-for-word and completely changing sentences (e.g. there were plenty of sentences said as questions in this episode, but the subs weirdly changed them into regular sentences).

Also for directors bear question all wild game animals have the chance to carry parasytes that can make a person really sick if you don't cook them past a certain temp.

So resurrecting them seems to give them back, or automatically equip them with their class items, like the knights having swords. But I'm not sure which one it is because when he raised them the first time, none of them had swords, not even Igris. When he raised them to fight the bears, they all had them.

Even with the knowledge from reading the manwha, I think Jinwoo just did it because it was a convenient opportunity to get a stronger shadow that will help him now and in future fights. As he said before he killed him, he needs a stronger army and Kim Chul is an A-rank hunter, which would make him a pretty strong shadow.

That being said a black bear fattened up by blueberries and fruits is supposed to be very good. Brown bear usually isn’t the best due to eating rotten salmon and such

2025-01-11 23:47:12 +0000 UTCI've seen reactors watch three different translations of this today, and the subtitles seem to change things up... here Hunter Kim says the Ice Slayers must've defeated the bears, which leads Director to believe he thought he got away from them, but in other translations, while standing by the bears, he suddenly realizes "wait, the Ice Slayers are here, and runs off, meaning he detected their presence still following him. I'm not sure which is right, but a number of subtle things change between the translations for this show. Even Jinwoo's "You're so predictable" line about Hunter Kim as he rushes him, makes him seem a bit more devious to me. In other translations, I've seen him say "I knew that was going to be your next move". It means the same thing, but the second version seems more like I knew you were going to try and kill me, so I'll have to defend myself, vs... a premeditated plan to take him out. We know he definitely did come up with the plan to use him at some point, but I see a subtle difference expressed in his intention. At the end of the day, most viewers probably don't care and will say "it's not that deep".

2025-01-11 23:46:27 +0000 UTCDirector was correct you can't just "eat" bear meat. You *could*, but it would most likely make you sick. It's also very bitter (from the fat deposits and musk) and stringy in some places, depending on the type of bear. Some have a taste so overwhelming that you'd probably never be able to keep it down. You have to prepare it properly since it carries a lot of harmful bacteria, and you can't do that unless you have the right methods and ingredients. Even if you kill the bacteria, the taste is very, very pungent and you need to prepare it well for it to taste good. Preparing it *properly* is a long process that shouldn't be done unless you're willing to get some diseases, have the proper tools or you're in a life-or-death situation (like we see in last episode). That's assuming you can even kill a bear to get its meat.

You have to remove that "gameyness" of bear by preparing it a certain way. I think there are some japanese methods that are available to make it taste really good. But yea, just in case you didn't know you can't just kill and eat a lot of animals, their meat tastes horrible and will make you sick. That's true with most predators.

Also bear meat usually has a bad reputation because it usually smells bad and generally tastes bad, not that its actually bad for you, but the taste and smell is effected by the bears diet, if it eats a lot of rotten corpses it's more likely to smell and taste bad, compared to one that hunts more or forages plants and fruit more.

You don’t have to cook bear a specific way, just make sure it’s cooked. Parasites and diseases. But I have heard of some Inuit eating it frozen (not sure if cooked first).
