When this first came out, we pretty much only had happy magical girl anime like Sailor Moon, so everyone went in with that expectation. Then ep. 3 happened, and that set a trend of dark edgy magical girl anime. Similar to tropes Star Wars started/popularized like the Hero's Journey or villain being the hero's father. Now decades later we are like "Yes, of course it's doing this trope" when that thing is the one who started that trope.

You can have it like in the While You Were Sleeping reaction where she's rooting for the cats and 1000% against that one story arc where there was a anti-cat villain. Here, we have Adorkable yelling "Skin that cat!!!"... (And I don't blame her. Kyubey is a scam artist with bad intentions and a smug approach)

Kyubey seems like a salesman, he ain't gonna mention sh*t that's potentially wrong with this agreement unless you ask about it. Other than that.. you'll figure it out yourself AFTER the contract has already been signed. I can see now why Homura has been warning Madoka from Episode 1 to NOT change who she is by not becoming a magical girl. And why Episode 1 she was trying to kill the damn cat! Becoming a magical girl just seems not worth the risk anymore lol. I just find it funny that we're halfway through the season and Madoka (the main character) is the one who is NOT a magical girl yet. Within the context of this world I'm glad.. but its still pretty funny to me when usually in these shows the main character is the one who becomes a magical girl and goes on the heros journey.
