Why I Don’t Always Know the Full Schedule Ahead of Time
My strategy is simple:
• Record as much content as possible.
• Keep an eye out for new material.
• Make the right play when the time comes.
Some folks ask, “What’s the plan for next week?” or “When’s K2 dropping?” And here’s the honest truth: I don’t always know for sure because there’s constantly new content dropping.
For example, Squid Game is just around the corner, and I just heard about shows like Commandos and Secret Level. Add holiday time off into the mix, and I have to carefully figure out how much we can record and post without any interruptions on Patreon. Oh, and heads up—we won’t be posting on Christmas or New Year’s Day.
It’s a balancing act. I’d hate to start posting K2 and suddenly realize I need more recording space for Squid Game. K2 fans would be PISSED, and people are already impatient before we’ve even started posting it! That’s why I always pre-record:
• It gives me flexibility.
• It helps me avoid spoilers.
• And it ensures I can post consistently without interruptions. (did you know that sometimes in between episodes I go weeks without recording. For example I might react episode three, of “while you were sleeping” record squid games for two weeks and then return to record episode four of “while you were sleeping”
(Plus, it gives my editors access to get to work right away!)
This approach isn’t unique to me—it’s actually super common in media. Songs, movies, and shows are often completed long before they’re released. Sometimes they’re ready but held back for strategic reasons, like holiday timing. Only in the anime industry—and MAPPA specifically—do they release episodes the day the animators just finished working on them. (MAPPA, we see you! Hahaha.)
Right now, I can tell you it’s in my head that I’ll likely post K2 this coming Monday. But once I officially write it on the schedule, I have to follow through with it. And that’s why I leave myself a few extra days to figure it out.
Had i posted the anime Handyman Satou, id be stuck as i took a break to cover more relive shows.
I’ve been called lame and definitely felt the pressure about release dates before. (Shoutout to the folks who are patient and pleasant—you’re always rewarded for it!) It’s funny to think about now, but I have way better tolerance than I used to.
That said, I never call you guys “lame,” even in jest. I think there are some lines that just shouldn’t be crossed, even for fun. We haven’t all met or built that rapport, so I respect those boundaries.
Thanks for rocking with me and for understanding the process. Trust me, everything I do is to make sure the content is the best it can be for all of you!
I end up giving you guys short answer “ it’ll be up as soon as possible” because my entire process is an essay worth. Its always something epic
