Copying this from Fobbles comment on Roshi's channel: In D&D lore, legendary creatures grow way stronger when they make a lair. They even get new environmental powers like a raid boss. We’ve seen this happen with the blue dragon where he electrified the gold coins on the ground, and the black dragon where he screamed and the rocks around everyone exploded! It’s another major reason why nobody would ever expect him to ambush. Because he’s weaker now! But red dragons love proving how much stronger they are so… Thordak does not care!
