2024-08-31 11:33:32 +0000 UTCI keep seeing this (especially since the USC "controversy") and it's really not quite right. "Na ge"/"nei ge" is used a lot in Mandarin and yes, quite often as a filler of sorts but unlike "um" or "ah", which are more filler sounds than filler words because they don't mean anything, "na ge"/"nei ge" actually means "that"/"that thing"/"that one". So the "nei ge" that Lee noted at 8:34 is really more like how we would use "well" or "so" as a delay/filler word to start a conversation.

2024-08-30 21:54:22 +0000 UTCHeads up language wise. Since Chinese is a tonal language, they need a new filler word for things like inflection (like how ma means "?" Or le meaning "!"). The one that pertains here is the Chinese filler word for "uh", "ah", or "uhm" is "ni ga". My Chinese mom was always nervous trying not to say uh or uhm in Mandarin around my black dad and my black half of family. When saying hello you say "Ni hao ma" which literally translates to "you good [question mark ?]". Mandarin is a interesting language

2024-08-30 21:48:01 +0000 UTCIt's fun that you are doing two smart Time Manipulation shows in While You Were Sleeping and Link Click. Both have similar main protagonists too in the more pessimistic Lu Guang being like Lee Jong Sunk. Xiaoshi, being more reckless and caring, being a male version of Suzy. Both shows also do a great job with stuff like Butterfly Effect

2024-08-30 21:18:40 +0000 UTCLol I swear I recommended it awhile ago. There are so many great donghuas out there. Others I recommend are Mo Dao Zu Shi (aka Founder of Diabolism), A Will Eternal, King's Avatar & Spare Me Great Lord. If you can deal with 3d/cgi then add Soul Land & Swallowed Star. Here's an amv for MDZS so you can see the art/animation style. It's stunning. https://youtu.be/yx9f458nCRY?si=bG1YjxRS6tyQ0oIm ... welcome to the rabbit hole that is chinese animation.
