2024-10-18 16:49:03 +0000 UTCIt's interesting, in this episode with all the Russian it really stands out, but it seems Alya's VA can actually speak a bit. She gets some of the Russian phonemes perfectly that would normally be tough for a native Japanese speaker (which she is). But not all the "extra" cast is so good. It really stands out when you have an ear for it.

2024-10-18 13:19:46 +0000 UTCI'm gonna say it's a red herring off of no info other than what we've been shown, Masha said a boy who saved her from a dog, is "sa-kun" and because she's older, it makes more sense that's why she would remember something that big, also her eyes are brown. Alya's eyes are blue like the girl in masachika's flashback. so chances are, they both met him a different times in their childhood. it's possible they're half sisters too based on Alya having blue eyes/blonde natural hair and Masha having brown eyes+brown hair. I could be reaching though since I have never read the manga, but based on the context, this is what I pulled together. also given the girl's speak Japanese at home and not Russian also leads me to think maybe Masha spent more time in Japan than alya

I don’t think it was all meant to be in a romantic way, at least not fully. And I think Sa-kun is our MC, lol. Alya’s sister probably met him when she was a child, and saved a picture of him in that locker cause she’s “excentric”. Oh, and I really liked the way the sister said something in Russian, the MC heard it and asked her what she meant, and she didn’t lie. She said exactly what she meant in Russian when she translated it to Japanese. I think that’s a very nice contrast with Alya.

"call me Onee-chan in Japan" might indicate Masha has a desire to "fit in" in Japan and could wear colored contacts so as to not stand out. If Masha is playground girl she may not realise Kuze is Sa-chan and she's not sacrificing herself. She may have thought she recognised him but that reaction to his given name may have been disappointment because his given name doesn't match her memory. Remember playground girl always mispronounced his name Masachka. That pause when she says his name. Masa......chika not chka. The Russian test confirms for her and she goes back to shipping them. Lots of clues either way and we're meant to keep guessing.

2024-07-18 17:30:53 +0000 UTC@Roger Not necessarily, eyes can still change color between early childood and like the middle of puberty, tho maybe not that drastically, tho that could be excused by anime exaggerating. I know mine changed from pure blue to half-blue/half-brown.

Kuze's effort to learn Russian would impress younger Alya and she might have related that to her sister. Alya may dissociate Kuze from playground boy because she did not know his surname at the time and she doesn’t think he understands Russian, It may have just been that Masha suspected that Alya had met Kuze in the past past and that's why she asked about his given name and tested for Russian understanding. There are several clues that Masha is not playground girl and Kuze is not Sa-kun. EP1 it’s established that Masha turns down suitors by telling them she is dating someone and her conversation with Alya seems to bear that out as true. To me, Alya seems irritated that Masha’a love life is going well as does Masha’s glee while talking about Sa-kun. The biggest clue is eye color. Playground girl’s eye color matches Alya but Masha’s eyes are brown.

There is a brief long shot on the stair at the dance where her hair takes a slight golden tinge due to the tungsten lighting on the field. The real issue is eye color. Masha has brown eyes and the playground girl has Alya's blue. Unless Masha wears color contacts it would be a plot hole in a otherwise well written story.
