The world of the married; very good acting, super toxic and probably one of the most popular kdramas ever. 3.Penthouse war in life; also very toxic and very popular, will absolutely make your blood boil. 4. The Last Empress; another dramatic one, but also super fun and quite popular, the guy who becomes Mr queen is one of the male leads. 5. Extraordinary you; this one is romantic with Lovely Runner female lead, one of my favourites also popular l think. 6. Dream high; old (2011) but a classic. 7. If you want another shin hye sun drama (main actress in mr queen ) her drama on Netflix ( welcome to samdal-ri) is out-stand-ing the acting the chemistry the storyline the set, everything is amazing and I don’t think it gets enough recognition. These are both amazing shows that are considered classics and have done very well when they came out and are still popular to this day. Another very popular one would be "healer". It's truly another classic and amazing show that is also not by the studios you mentioned. Healer is still very popular to this day and beloved by many.

Did some more digging and looks like between CJ ENM also owning broadcasting companies and Studio Dragon producing a lot of shows - they create something like 40% of K-dramas. That's crazy. So, although CJ ENM nor Studio Dragon did not produce certain shows like a lot of people are saying, they might still come after you for TvN shows since CJ ENM owns them. Check Asianwiki for production companies. Best bet is JTBC shows like Sky Castle, Reborn Rich, Welcome to Waikiki, The Good Bad Mother (I think Adorkable mentioned watching this on her own time though) and Beyond Evil, MBC shows or Netflix shows that aren’t produced by Studio Dragon.

yeah 18 Again is something that I've rewatched and it still hits the same with how good it is. I've watched 17 Again with Zac Efron once but I don't really see much similarities between them aside from the de-aging, being into basketball and the family problem (even the family aspect of it doesn't seem at all similar to me from memory alone, i think the kdrama approached it better though since I don't really remember any heartwrenching family moment in the movie that stuck with me even though I was a big fan of Zac Efron that time). About Beuty Inside. I didn't knwo that there's a movie version, maybe it's better cause I have to agree with you that it's just a good drama not something amazing. it's something I only watched once but decided to list here cause I can't think of anything else that's not CJ ENM at the moment. The concept of changing into different people just got me curious then. But I really do hope 18 Again gets included in the poll cause that one is great and the cast are popular and amazing too if that's what they want to attract more watchers for the reaction videos.

Since a lot of ppl are recommending it and I'll jump on the bandwagon. I also recommend 18 Again (a series remake of the Zac Efron movie 17 Again with Lee Do Hyun in the Zac Efron role). It is not CJ ENM or Studio Dragon. It's oddly enough very close to a harem anime with all the girls surrounding the male lead. The American version is funny, but pretty mid in that it's more like a harmless 90s romcom. The Korean version is peak quality and good in that it fixes the flaws of the original and expands on them to make it a very deep and layered drama. Wi Ha Joon from Worst of Evil even finds a way to put in a good performance. I think Ryeoun plays a high schooler here better than he did in Twinkling Watermelon, because in Twinkling Watermelon he looked 30.

Penthouse, Sky Castle, and World of the Married are the peakiest of peak toxic KDramas in Korea (and somehow that got those three of the top ten spots in highest rated KDrama in Korea. The Korean audience must love their toxicity)

18 Again is peak. It's also a scene by scene remake of the Zac Efron movie 17 Again. If you watched both, it's fun lining up the scenes. Except they turn 90 minutes into 16 hours (16 episodes). Stretching it out like that makes it less cheese like the Zac Efron version, and more epic, fun, sad, and dramatic. Wi Ha Joon from Worst of Evil even finds a way to steal the show there as the side character. Beauty Inside the series, in my opinion, isn't TOO great. For me, that's because I prefer the kmovie version over the KDrama version. Same concept, but less slapstick and more heartwarming. The main female lead in that one is the lady that plays Bongseok's mom from Moving (the girl with the super senses and handguns). It's also a male lead that keeps swapping too, which of course means he can be a kid or girl too.

While some people like Signal as their favorite time manipulation KDrama, I keep recommending While You Were Sleeping. It's not CJ ENM or Studio Dragon. It's SBS. SBS tends to like the promotion because it equals more Viki rights deals. While You Were Sleeping is also a crime and time manipulation drama. This is where the main heroes have the power to see and maybe change bad futures. The main female lead is one of my favorite KDrama actresses of all time. Her name is Bae Suzy and this was one of her breakout roles as the bbq shop lady that wants to use her powers for good. You've seen Suzy before because she was the lead singer of the KPop girl group Miss-A. I remember you liking their song "Good Bye Baby Goodbye". Penthouse: War in Life... It might actually hold the record still for most watched television KDrama in Korea (it surpassed the record held by World of the Married, another crazy KDrama. I guess psycho equals ratings?). It's an insane KDrama about a bunch of rich female opera singers trying to murder each other. On top of that, there's a Kill Bill story about a mother trying to murder a bunch of high school bullies and rich people to avenge her daughter. Death happens even in the first 2 minutes of the series. It is not made by CJ ENM or Studio Dragon. It's SBS and they don't tend to care about strikes. You can find it legally on Viki. Like I said, at one point it was the record top viewed KDrama and I can't even think what would have surpassed it?

I recommend sky castle (not made by either of those studios). It has main girl from lovely runner in it. It has super toxic but really addicting vibes. I love the acting and the storyline and the development of the characters and it focuses on basically the toxicity and high expectations in the education system between the elite.

Unfortunately most kdrama that are popular are either made by studio dragon because they are also the parent company to many many more smaller studios. So this is going to be difficult. I just checked 3 popular names and they are either affiliated with studio dragon or with CNM etc. So I’m at a loss right now. At least if we are sticking to a popular drama that is.
